The Taiwan Digital Game Rating Committee assigns ratings to games only after developers or publishers submit them for review. They don’t create ratings randomly. In this case, Square Enix is primarily responsible for the recent leak revealing a Nintendo Switch 2 version of Dragon Quest XI S: Echoes of an Elusive Age – Definitive Edition.
Nintendo Switch 2 Version Releasing Soon
The game rating board has confirmed a Nintendo Switch 2 version of the Square Enix RPG is in development. Ratings usually appear close to a game’s release, suggesting an announcement and launch are likely coming soon.
This leak might now lead to an announcement of the Nintendo Switch 2 version sooner than its actual release. This is likely true unless the announcement is planned for a Nintendo Direct event, which is a real possibility. If that’s the case, Square Enix would have to wait for Nintendo and its partners to schedule that Direct.
2017 Square Enix RPG
Okay, so Dragon Quest XI S: Echoes of an Elusive Age is the latest big RPG in a series that’s been around forever – like, since 1986! I first played it when it came out on PS4 and 3DS, but it eventually made its way to the Switch in 2019. The Switch version is amazing and got a 91 on Metacritic, though the original release was still a solid 86. It even got nominated for Best RPG at The Game Awards, which was cool, but it didn’t end up winning, unfortunately.
While the game already works on the new Nintendo Switch 2 thanks to backward compatibility, this leak isn’t very surprising. However, because it is backward compatible, it seems likely Square Enix is planning a significant update for the Switch 2 version, and that’s what’s generating interest.
