The third season of Jujutsu Kaisen recently finished, concluding the first part of the intense “Culling Game” arc. Although a fourth season is already planned, Studio MAPPA is releasing a new story set years after the beginning of Yuji Itadori’s adventures. Jujutsu Kaisen: Modulo, originally a series of chapters by creator Gege Akutami in Weekly Shonen Jump, is now being adapted into an animated special, focusing on a conflict between sorcerers and extraterrestrial beings.
The manga Jujutsu Kaisen: Modulo recently concluded, finishing the story that followed the grandchildren of Yuto and Maki. Although an anime adaptation hasn’t been officially announced, the final volume is being released in Japan, and Studio MAPPA decided to help promote it in a unique way. They animated key scenes from the sequel, giving fans a preview of what a potential anime series could look like. You can watch the new MAPPA animation to get a feel for how the world of Tsurugi, Yuka, and Maru might be brought to life.
How Will a Modulo Anime Work?
It’s still unclear what form the anime adaptation of Jujutsu Kaisen: Modulo will take. The sequel is much shorter than the original series, consisting of only three manga volumes. While this could be enough for a full anime season, MAPPA’s recent focus on movies raises the possibility that Modulo might be adapted as a film instead. Plus, since a fourth season of Jujutsu Kaisen hasn’t been officially announced as the last, fans may have to wait a long time to see Modulo animated.
If you enjoyed the first season of Jujutsu Kaisen, you won’t want to miss Modulo. While the story follows three new characters, it also brings back familiar faces from the original series. The story jumps ahead in time, revealing what happened in the decades between the end of the first season and the beginning of the sequel, and is full of unexpected twists – as you can see in the trailer. Although MAPPA hasn’t officially announced an anime adaptation yet, it seems likely that the story of Tsurugi, Yuka, and Maru will eventually be animated. You can read the full sequel now through Viz Media to get ahead of the story.
