Battlefield Studios has revealed details about the upcoming content for Season 3 of Battlefield 6 and its free-to-play battle royale, REDSEC. The update, shared with the community, announced that Season 3 will launch on May 12th for both games.
The update’s main feature is a revamped version of the classic Battlefield 4 map, Golmud Railway, now called Railway to Golmud. This new version has been significantly improved, including an extra engine for the train. Railway to Golmud will also be the largest map yet in Battlefield 6, four times bigger than Mirak Valley.
Battlefield Studios is working on making weapons feel more consistent and balanced. They’re looking at how weapons behave – including recoil – and how quickly they eliminate opponents. The goal is to make weapon performance easier to understand for all players, no matter how they control the game.
We’re still working on making the online experience better, including improvements to how the game connects players and registers hits, through Battlefield Labs. The team is also focused on making it easier to see other players, and updates addressing this will be released throughout Season 3.
There’s been a lot of talk about how mortars work, and the developers at Battlefield Studios want to emphasize that they’re best used when teammates work together. Players should constantly communicate to make sure mortars hit the right targets. Starting with Season 3, mortars won’t automatically reload ammo while deployed, and firing them over long distances will make them less accurate.
We’re planning more improvements for later in Season 3. These updates will focus on making land vehicles handle better, based on what players have told us, and improving the ping system to be more reliable and consistent. We’re also continuously working behind the scenes to refine the matchmaking process.
We’re updating how playlists look and work. You’ll notice the ‘Featured’ row is now ‘Quickplay,’ making it easier to find games. We’re also improving the ‘Multiplayer’ row to avoid a lot of side-to-side scrolling. Finally, we’re separating playlists for single-player and mixed-mode experiences to make things clearer.
Players of REDSEC will enjoy the new Ranked Battle Royale mode, which is now available for teams of four.
Battlefield 6 and REDSEC are available on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
