The Dingle family in Emmerdale might be getting some positive developments soon, just before a tense week of courtroom drama.
Last month on the show, Detective Sergeant Walsh figured out that Ray Walters and Celia Daniels were working with a hidden partner: Bear Wolf.
Even though he was forced to work extremely hard as a slave on their farm for months, they still treated him this way.
I always felt so bad for Bear. He tragically took Ray’s life in a split second, a truly impulsive act, and it haunted him immediately. He genuinely believed Ray was a good person, and that’s why he turned himself in to the authorities – he needed to face the consequences and do what he thought was right.
Paddy Dingle was hoping to get his father a reduced sentence by demonstrating he wasn’t mentally well at the time of the crime. Walsh agreed that his father was unwell, meaning the Crown Prosecution Service couldn’t pursue charges while he was receiving care in a mental health facility.

However, when Bear discharged himself, he was taken back into custody.
While visiting a prison earlier this week, Bear noticed another person Ray and Celia controlled – a man named Simon Clarke, also known as Steven Gidwaney – talking to another inmate. Bear told Paddy to follow Clarke, and Paddy convinced him to talk to the police and help prove Bear wasn’t guilty.
Simo hesitated, wanting to leave the difficult period in the past. He didn’t want to revisit the awful memories of his time on the farm and risk losing his current happiness.

Today on the show, Dylan Penders, played by Fred Kettle, told Marlon Dingle, played by Mark Charnock, about his difficult experience with Simo and expressed hope they could convince him to give a statement.
Marlon realized their biggest problem was that ‘Simo’ wasn’t the man’s real name, and they had no idea where he lived, making it impossible to find him. Luckily, Graham Foster (Andrew Scarborough), a man in the village, could likely get the information they needed.
Soon after, Graham led Simo to the village and introduced him to Paddy and Dylan. They brought him to Tenant House, and after a difficult discussion, he agreed to give evidence in court.

Zara, Bear’s lawyer, believes this new development will help prove his innocence. The Dingle family cautiously celebrated, and Paddy called Bear with the good news – he might be released from prison very soon.
As the episode ended, I was really struck by Paddy. He stepped outside and just looked around the village, and you could feel his anxiety building. It wasn’t just about what was happening now, but everything he stood to lose in the days to come. It was a powerful moment, visually and emotionally.
Emmerdale airs weeknights at 8pm on ITV1 and from 7am on ITVX.
