Get ready for more from your favorite doctors! A second season of the Scrubs revival on Disney+ is coming, continuing the stories of JD (Zach Braff), Elliot (Sarah Chalke), and Turk (Donald Faison).
Viewers who loved the first show were happy to see this new version live up to expectations. It builds on the original characters in interesting ways and introduces a fantastic set of new faces.
Beyond the positive feedback, the tenth season of Scrubs was a hit with viewers. The premiere episode attracted 11 million North American viewers, and the season became ABC’s most popular comedy that year among adults aged 18 to 49.
Zach Braff, the star of Scrubs, has shared that this revival series was always planned to last for several seasons, unlike the limited run of Malcolm in the Middle: Life’s Still Unfair, and the team is already working on future plans.
John C. McGinley, who plays Dr. Cox, shared with Deadline that fans will see much more of his character in season two, especially after the emotional moment when it was revealed Dr. Cox would become JD’s patient.

Dr. Cox received a diagnosis of microscopic polyangiitis, a rare and incurable autoimmune disease. Managing this condition requires specialized medical attention, which is especially difficult given his complex relationship with the person delivering the care.
According to McGinley, the show needs a real sense of danger and stakes. He believes a major threat will come from the character of Cox, however the show’s creator, Billy Lawrence, chooses to develop that storyline. McGinley anticipates Cox will play a larger, more central role in the second season, though he admits this is just his guess.
In addition to Dr. Cox’s potential return, Zach Braff has confirmed that the creators of Scrubs have listened to fans who want to see more of the original cast. He told TVLine they’re actively trying to make it happen, despite some challenges.
Carla, the head nurse at Sacred Heart and Turk’s wife, wasn’t in many of the new episodes because she was already committed to another Disney comedy called High Potential, which also stars Kaitlin Olson from It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.
Braff said they felt limited by only having nine episodes, especially considering how much they wanted to include. He acknowledged fans are hoping to see more of certain characters – like Johnny, The Janitor, and Carla – and assured them they’re trying to make that happen.
Bill Lawrence, the creator of the original series and an executive producer on the revival—also known for shows like Ted Lasso and Shrinking—has confirmed that Ken Jenkins will reprise his role as the intimidating Dr. Bob Kelso in the reboot’s second season.
Dr. Kelso is expected to return next year, according to a February interview with Deadline. While things didn’t align this year, plans are in place for his return next year.
Bringing back that actor to the cast of Scrubs would be a big deal, especially since 85-year-old Richard Jenkins was thought to be retired. He hasn’t had a significant role since appearing in season 2 of Netflix’s A Series of Unfortunate Events back in 2018.
We’ll bring you more updates on Scrubs season 2 (aka season 11) as they come in.
Scrubs is available to stream on Disney+. Sign-up to Disney+ from £5.99 a month.
