I’m getting so hyped for 007: First Light! They just released a preview on the PlayStation Blog after someone got to play it, and it sounds amazing. Apparently, the game really nails that classic Bond feel by blending intense action with sneaky stealth. It seems like they’ve struck a great balance, which is exactly what I’ve been hoping for!
The game 007: First Light begins with Bond working as a sailor in the Royal Navy. A mission goes wrong when his helicopter is struck by missiles, forcing him to crash-land on the coast of Iceland. This immediately throws players into a stealth section where Bond must avoid enemy mercenaries.
Bond is soon contacted by MI6 and given a mission to recover a strange object. To learn more, he goes undercover as a member of a mercenary group. The mission culminates in a thrilling chase, after which MI6 begins to train Bond further.
Overall, the preview showcases three of the initial missions in 007: First Light. The second mission emphasizes stealth within ancient ruins and introduces one of Bond’s gadgets: the Q Lens. This lens allows Bond to see enemies through walls and identify devices he can hack. He also has a watch that can shoot a laser, useful for things like cutting ropes from afar.
The hand-to-hand combat lets Bond creatively take down enemies. He can use the environment to his advantage – like slamming foes into walls to stun them, or throwing objects to disrupt their attacks. Plus, Bond’s watch laser can briefly stun opponents, creating an opening for a finishing move.
The third mission in 007: First Light heavily features social stealth. After pursuing an assassin, Bond follows them to a glamorous gala in London. Here, players can investigate and use social skills to gather crucial intelligence. Similar to the Hitman series, Bond can disguise himself as different people to infiltrate the event.
Following a series of chaotic events – including a classic Hitman-style takedown involving a falling chandelier – Bond makes a daring escape. This leads to a thrilling, high-speed chase where players must drive a garbage truck through tight spaces while being pursued by enemies.
IO Interactive is creating 007: First Light for PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch 2. The Switch 2 version needed extra development time, so it will be released this summer. While you wait, you can listen to the game’s theme song, performed by Lana Del Rey, and watch the classic *Bondstyle opening sequence.
As a fan, I’m really excited that getting the game’s Deluxe Edition will unlock some cool extras like special outfits, tools, and weapons – they showed a sneak peek in a trailer back in April. And I just saw an interview with Lennie James, who plays John Greenway, and he had some great things to say about Patrick Gibson’s performance as the new Bond!
