The royal family just got a new prince.
Prince William and Kate Middleton have welcomed a new baby to their family, joining big siblings Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis.
On May 1st, Prince William and Kate shared a sweet photo of a new puppy, Otto, and announced his arrival to the family with the message, “Welcome to the family Otto! 1 today.”
Prince William and Kate Middleton have added a new pet to their family, a dog named Otto. They previously adopted a black cocker spaniel named Orla in 2020. Prince William also revealed that the family dislikes one chore in particular: cleaning the guinea pig’s cage.
According to Victoria Ward of The Telegraph, Prince William shared during a 2024 visit to Woodgate Valley Urban Farm that his children frequently forget to clean their guinea pig’s cage, so he ends up doing it himself.
Prince William and Princess Kate aren’t the only royals who’ve had pets. Queen Elizabeth II famously loved corgis and had more than 30 throughout her 70 years as queen.
Over the years, people close to the royal family have said that Queen Elizabeth often personally cared for the dogs herself.
Photographer Annie Leibovitz shared a 2022 photo on X (formerly Twitter) and recalled that the Queen walked her dogs daily. The Queen had a lifelong love for corgis, small and brave dogs originally bred to herd cattle. She received her first corgi from her father when she was just seven years old and had one as a companion for the next several decades.

The Queen’s love for corgis started in 1944 when she was given a puppy named Susan for her 18th birthday, as stated on the royal family’s website.
From there, the royal bred all of her corgis as descendents from Susan and included a few “dorgis.”
In addition to her fondness for corgis, the Queen also created a unique breed called ‘dorgis,’ which are a mix between dachshunds and corgis, according to the royal website.
