The Mortal Kombat movies are famous for their intense and violent action, and the new film, Mortal Kombat II, looks to continue that tradition. While trailers have already shown some shocking and brutal fights with characters like Johnny Cage, Kitana, Sub-Zero, and Scorpion, a newly released clip features a particularly impressive battle between two iconic Mortal Kombat fighters – and it might be the best fight scene in the whole movie. You can check it out in the video linked below.
A new clip showcases a fight between Liu Kang (Ludi Lin) and Kung Lao (Max Huang). Kung Lao is back, despite dying in the first Mortal Kombat movie, and he’s even more dangerous this time around. The fight is a fast-paced exchange of blocks and dodges, as both fighters know each other well. They then unleash their special powers, creating a visually stunning battle that could be the best action sequence in the whole film – and the clip only shows part of it! You can watch the clip below.

Liu Kang vs Kung Lao Was Always Going To Be Special in Mortal Kombat II

Everyone expected this fight to be a highlight of the sequel, considering how important Liu Kang and Kung Lao were in the first movie. It’s especially heartbreaking when Kung Lao is defeated by Shang Tsung – not just that he loses, but how he loses makes it truly impactful.
At the beginning of the movie, Raiden quickly moves his friends to safety, away from Shang Tsung’s army. However, Cole is caught and attacked before he can escape with them. Just as Sub-Zero is about to defeat Cole, Kung Lao reappears and destroys Sub-Zero’s ice creation. But Shang Tsung quickly grabs Kung Lao and begins stealing his life force.
Liu Kang is battling close by and rushes towards Kung Lao when he hears his cry. However, he arrives just as Shang Tsung is finishing the process of stealing Kung Lao’s soul. Cole restrains Liu Kang from attacking Shang Tsung, and they are both teleported away the moment Shang Tsung completely absorbs Kung Lao’s soul.
Kung Lao’s spirit has been twisted by a dark force, and as a result, Liu Kang is now forced to fight his close friend.
Mortal Kombat II hits theaters on May 8, 2026.
