I can’t believe it! A game from way back in 1996, when the original PlayStation was still pretty new, just got re-released on modern platforms! 1996 was such an amazing year for the PS1, seriously – we got titles like Tomb Raider, Crash Bandicoot, Tekken 2, Suikoden, Twisted Metal 2, and Resident Evil 2 all in one year! Now, a game that came out that same year, one that maybe isn’t as famous as those others, is getting a second chance and is available on a lot more systems. It’s awesome to see these older games getting some love!
Hamster, a video game publisher, has recently brought the side-scrolling shooter Rohga: Armor Force to PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch. This game first appeared in arcades in 1992 as a follow-up to Vapor Trail, and it was later adapted for the original PlayStation in 1996. However, Rohga: Armor Force was only released in Japan for the PS1, meaning players outside of Japan may not know it well. Also known as Wolf Fang in Japan, the game was eventually followed by a sequel called Skull Fang, but that sequel never made it to the PS1.
“The year is 2001 AD. The battle between wolves with steel fangs is about to begin,” says the game’s official description. “There are a whopping 64 different machines! In this shooting game, you can combine four types of BODY, ARM, and LEG to create your own custom machine and battle with it.”
The newest version of Rohga: Armor Force is now available for purchase on the PlayStation Store and Nintendo eShop, launching on April 30th. As part of Hamster’s ongoing “Console Archives” series, this release includes several improvements found in other recent titles, such as quick saves, customizable button controls, and expanded screen options.
Hamster is expected to release a new game as part of their Console Archives series next week. While the title is currently unknown, it might be a classic PlayStation 1 game, which would be exciting news for longtime fans.
