Acclaimed Sci-Fi RPG Will Soon Be Delisted (But It’s Not All Bad News)

It’s sadly becoming more and more common for games to be removed from digital stores, often because of licensing issues or the cost of maintaining online servers. While this happens regularly, it’s unusual for a well-known, highly-rated single-player game to be taken down. However, that’s about to happen to a popular title from Obsidian Entertainment. Fortunately, the situation isn’t as bad as it first appeared.

Starting May 27th, 2019, the role-playing game The Outer Worlds will no longer be sold on most PC stores like Steam and the Epic Games Store. It’s also being removed from newer consoles like the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, but will still be available on PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch. If you already own the game, you’ll still be able to play it. After May 27th, PC players wanting to buy The Outer Worlds will only be able to purchase the more expensive Spacer’s Choice Edition, which includes all downloadable content. However, anyone who owns the game now, or buys it before it’s removed, will get a special benefit.

The Outer Worlds Base Game Is Getting Delisted, But That Might Actually Be Good News

The original version of The Outer Worlds is being removed from sale to make way for the Spacer’s Choice Edition. This new edition includes the original game, both of its big expansions, and some improvements like a higher level cap. Obsidian Entertainment plans to add even more enhancements to this upgraded version, but that means the original game will no longer be available.

Obsidian announced on April 30th that the Spacer’s Choice Edition will be the only version of the popular RPG The Outer Worlds available for PC. The original 2019 version will be removed from major PC stores, but will still be playable on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and Nintendo Switch. If you already own the game, or buy it before May 27th, you’ll still be able to access it. Obsidian is also offering a special bonus to players who own the original version before it’s removed on May 27th, so it might be a good time to pick it up if you haven’t already.

If you own any version of The Outer Worlds (even just the original) before May 27th, you’ll receive the upgraded Spacer’s Edition for free. This applies to players on PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5. If you’re playing on older consoles, you’ll need to own both the base game and all its DLC to get the Spacer’s Choice Edition, but the upgrade itself will be free – you won’t have to pay anything extra.

When the original version of the game (normally $29.99) is no longer available for purchase, the price of the Spacer’s Choice Edition will change too. Luckily, the price is going down – from $59.99 to $39.99 starting May 27th. While still more expensive than the original game, $39.99 is a good value since this edition includes all the downloadable content and quality-of-life improvements.

If you’re planning to get The Outer Worlds on PC, be sure to buy it before May 27th! If you do, you’ll receive a free upgrade to the Spacer’s Choice Edition. That means you’ll save $10 compared to the price after May 27th.
