Iron Man is still incredibly popular within the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but the supporting characters around him haven’t always received the attention they deserved. Considering he starred in the first MCU film in 2008, it makes sense that Iron Man became a central figure in the franchise. He was one of the most important heroes during the Infinity Saga, and even though he died in Avengers: Endgame, his impact on the MCU continues to be felt. While Iron Man’s time in the films was largely successful, it wasn’t without its flaws.
Iron Man faced off against many villains throughout his time in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, both in his own films and as one of the original Avengers. However, the comics feature a lot of fantastic Iron Man villains who haven’t made it to the screen – and might never. While there’s talk of bringing Iron Man back with a new actor, these great villains were left out of his story during the first eleven MCU movies.
7) Madame Masque

Madame Masque is a compelling but often overlooked villain from Marvel comics, originally a romantic interest for Iron Man. Though a version of her appeared in the Agent Carter TV show, her connection to Iron Man was never explored in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which was a missed opportunity. Her backstory is both sad and intricate, and her unique look and powers make her a standout character. While she wasn’t featured in Iron Man’s story, there’s still a chance Madame Masque could appear in future Marvel projects.
6) The Guardsmen

The Guardsmen, now known as villains in the Marvel Universe, have a surprising origin: they started as a single character, a friend and student of Tony Stark. A faulty Iron Man suit twisted this character, and he eventually became the first of many Guardsmen. Often working for Justin Hammer, they could appear in the upcoming Armor Wars series. Unfortunately, their interesting backstory was overlooked during the earlier Iron Man films in the MCU.
5) Arno Stark

Arno Stark has a surprisingly complicated backstory in Marvel comics, but he’s still a compelling character. He’s been presented as both Tony Stark’s brother and cousin in different versions of the story, and is often known as Iron Man 2020. He’s essentially a darker version of Tony Stark, and many believe he’d be a great addition to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but so far, Marvel hasn’t introduced him.
4) Titanium Man

Though his name isn’t very imaginative, Titanium Man is a formidable Iron Man foe in the Marvel comics. He was originally created as the Soviet Union’s answer to Iron Man, and his backstory ties into Black Widow’s, making him a natural fit for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, the MCU hasn’t taken advantage of this connection, and with both Iron Man and Black Widow no longer in the picture, it’s unlikely we’ll see Titanium Man appear anytime soon.
3) Crimson Dynamo

In the Marvel comics, the Crimson Dynamo was among Iron Man’s earliest foes. However, the Marvel Cinematic Universe missed a great chance to bring this villain to life on screen. While Anton Vanko, the original and most famous Crimson Dynamo, did appear in the MCU, his role was small. Essentially, he only served to motivate his son’s storyline, meaning the franchise never fully explored the potential of the Crimson Dynamo as a character within its movies and TV shows.
2) Dreadknight

It seems the MCU didn’t use the villain Dreadknight mainly because of when things happened in the story. His origins are closely tied to Doctor Doom, and Doom didn’t appear until after the Infinity Saga, making it difficult to introduce Dreadknight as a significant Iron Man enemy earlier on. It’s unfortunate, as Dreadknight has a striking look and could have created a cool team-up between Iron Man and Black Knight if the timing had been better.
1) Korvac

Korvac is a remarkably powerful villain from the Avengers comics who hasn’t appeared in the Marvel movies yet, which is a missed opportunity. Although not primarily known as an Iron Man enemy, he’s fought Tony Stark frequently in the comics, and a movie adaptation could have been a fantastic addition to the MCU. Unfortunately, Marvel didn’t pursue this character earlier, and it’s now unlikely we’ll ever see Iron Man face off against Korvac in a film.
