Star Wars: Galactic Racer Is Doing Something I Wish All Racing Games Would Try

I’m really excited about this new racing game Fuse Studios is making, Star Wars: Galactic Racer! It looks super fast and chaotic, kind of like F-Zero, Burnout, or even Need for Speed. Honestly, a lot of racing games fall into the trap of feeling the same, but Galactic Racer seems to be doing something different. They’ve hinted at a feature that suggests it’s going to break away from the usual racing game formula, and that’s a huge plus in my book!

With several ambitious sci-fi games like Saros, Pragmata, and Replaced coming out this year, Star Wars: Galactic Racer might appear more modest, resembling an arcade game. But the Forza series has demonstrated that racing games can be incredibly successful if they offer unique and engaging experiences. Galactic Racer, benefiting from the popular Star Wars brand and promising faster-paced racing, looks promising before its release on October 6, 2026.

Star Wars Galactic Racer’s Latest Trailer Showed Off First-Person Perspectives For Podracing

The new trailer for Star Wars: Galactic Racer highlighted what players can expect in the game, including special deluxe editions and rewards for pre-ordering. It showcased new race tracks and vehicles, and even featured footage of the famous podracing scene from Star Wars Episode 1: The Phantom Menace. The trailer briefly showed the game from a first-person perspective, suggesting this might be a feature players can use while racing.

All previous gameplay footage of this game has shown a standard, over-the-shoulder camera angle, giving players a clear view of their vehicle and the environment. This perspective is typical in racing games because it helps players see obstacles and other racers, no matter how fast the action gets. However, the game is now offering a first-person view, which will trade some of that wide visibility for a more intense and immersive feeling of being in the driver’s seat.

The new trailer showed a first-person perspective, and if this becomes a feature in the game, it could be incredibly immersive. While the limited view might take some getting used to, it would make the fast-paced action feel much more realistic. With improved sound effects – especially for the sci-fi vehicles and their crashes – many players might choose to play Galactic Racer exclusively in first-person.

Other Star Wars Games Have Benefited From Unique Piloting Viewpoints

While a first-person perspective in a Star Wars racing game might seem new, the series has used this viewpoint for vehicles before. Star Wars Squadrons is a great example – it featured intense cockpit views during starfighter battles with ships from across the Star Wars galaxy, even letting players fly the Millennium Falcon. Though the game usually showed ships from a slightly distanced third-person angle, players could easily switch to a first-person perspective whenever they wanted.

Both Star Wars Squadrons and earlier games like 2017’s Star Wars: Battlefront 2 offered unique perspectives from inside ships. Battlefront 2 let players experience flying TIE Fighters, X-Wings, and other vehicles from a first-person view. This personalized approach also applied to characters, letting each player choose how they saw the battlefield with different third- and first-person options.

Most Racing Games Use Fixed Camera Angles As Opposed To Galactic Racer’s Cinematic Shifts

While some racing games let you see the action from the driver’s seat, many of the most popular ones use a set camera angle instead of one that moves with the action. Developers often choose this to give players a broader view of the race, making it easier to follow everything happening. This is especially true in chaotic games like Mario Kart, where items and obstacles create a lot of on-screen activity, and a wider view helps players keep track of it all.

Despite any potential drawbacks of a first-person view, it’s great that Galactic Racer will feature detailed close-ups of both classic and new Star Wars racing vehicles. This focus on unique elements aligns with the trend in upcoming Star Wars games like Star Wars Zero Company, which are gaining attention for their innovative approaches. With Galactic Racer promising fully customizable vehicles, offering better viewing options makes perfect sense.

As a big fan, I’m really hoping they add an option to switch between seeing my ship from behind (third-person) and from inside the cockpit (first-person)! It would let us really tailor how we experience the super-fast racing in the Star Wars universe. Honestly, Star Wars: Galactic Racer already looks fantastic, but this would just make an already great game even better, bringing back a lot of the fun we had with those classic Star Wars vehicle games.

As a huge Star Wars: Galactic Racer fan, I’m really curious – wouldn’t it be amazing if the game had a first-person mode? I’d love to hear what you all think! Let me know in the comments, or we can chat about it over on the ComicBook Forum!
