The sequel series, Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo, surprised readers with a heartbreaking development for Yuji Itadori, the main character from the original story. The first part of Jujutsu Kaisen concluded in September 2024, and just a year later, the story continued with a new installment. This new manga, created by Gege Akutami and Yuji Iwasaki, is set 68 years in the future and focuses on a new cast of characters. The world of Jujutsu Kaisen has changed significantly, with sorcerers generally being much less powerful than before. While the original story featured incredibly strong sorcerers like Satoru Gojo who were considered the foundation of the Jujutsu world, the current generation is finding it difficult to find anyone with comparable abilities.
The second part of the manga centers on the battle between sorcerers and the Simurians, a powerful alien race seeking refuge in Japan. After a conflict broke out, the Jujutsu community urgently needed someone who could defeat Dabura, but no existing sorcerer seemed capable. In a surprising move, they tasked Yuka Okkotsu, a seriously ill teenager, with handling the situation, highlighting their lack of reliable, high-level sorcerers beyond Yuji Itadori. The sequel clearly demonstrates Yuji’s immense power, and the final volume officially recognizes his true strength with an appropriate ranking.
Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo Confirmed Yuji Itadori Is a Special-Grade Sorcerer

Eating the Death Paintings before his fight with Ryomen Sukuna significantly slowed down Yuji’s aging. This turned him into a unique being, part human and part curse, and he was left to live a solitary life, watching his loved ones pass away. Over the decades, this also granted him incredible powers. During their final battle, Yuji mastered a range of abilities, including controlling blood, Sukuna’s original technique, Domain Expansion, and the Reverse Cursed Technique.
He was a naturally fast learner, quickly improving his skills over the years. Eventually, he mastered his abilities and became a highly-ranked, special-grade sorcerer. This ranking was officially confirmed in the final volume of the manga, released on May 1st, 2026. That volume included bonus character details and illustrations not found on platforms like Manga Plus or the Shonen Jump app.
Because the latest volume hasn’t been translated into English, @Go_Jover on X – a trusted source for Jujutsu Kaisen news – revealed Yuji’s official ranking. Typically, sorcerers start at a high level, as they’re much stronger than those who gradually improve. But Yuji is different; he only developed powers after becoming Sukuna’s vessel. As shown in his fight with Mahito in Chapter 22, his abilities quickly became incredibly powerful – he didn’t even need to make a move to unleash a technique strong enough to defeat Mahito in a single blow.
