Guerrilla Games’ Horizon Hunters Gathering seems to be their focus right now, with a new single-player game expected in three to five years. If you’re curious about the co-op hunting experience, a closed playtest will be held from May 22nd to 25th on both PlayStation 5 and PC through Steam.
The update incorporates feedback from our recent closed test and introduces two new playable characters: Ensa, who fights with a large cane hook, and Shadow, who uses a saber and can summon a Stalker machine for assistance. We’ll share more details soon, but players can also look forward to a new area called Breakers’ Bounty and a new episode in the campaign, taking them to Ashwater Valley.
The new Machine Incursion update adds Hard and Merciless difficulty levels, with the Merciless mode throwing especially tough enemies – like Thunderjaws and Ravagers – at players simultaneously. Cauldron Descent will also feature more challenging rooms. To help players, especially those playing alone, Hunter NPCs are now available to assist in both Episodes and Machine Incursion. They can even fill a missing player slot on your team, similar to how it works in Monster Hunter Wilds.
While Horizon Hunters Gathering is still being developed and doesn’t have a confirmed release date, it’s starting to look promising. It remains to be seen whether it will succeed and avoid the challenges other Sony live-service games have faced.
