June 2026 Is Going to Be a Huge Month for Lord of the Rings Games

It’s been a disappointing few years for gamers hoping for new Lord of the Rings adventures. Recent games like Tales of the Shire and Return to Moria didn’t quite hit the mark, and Gollum was best forgotten. Although there’s talk of a big new Lord of the Rings video game in the future, it’s probably several years away. For now, the most exciting Lord of the Rings gaming news is happening with tabletop games, and fans have just received some great updates!

Fans of tabletop roleplaying games who love Middle-earth have several options for adventures set in Tolkien’s world, including The One Ring and The Lord of the Rings Roleplaying Game (compatible with the 5e system). Both of these official games are getting significant expansions on June 2nd: The One Ring will receive two new supplements, and the 5e Lord of the Rings Roleplaying Game will get one. The One Ring Gets War of the Ring & Hobbit Tales Supplements

The One Ring is the official tabletop role-playing game based on The Lord of the Rings, and it’s currently in its second edition. Players can create their own stories set in Middle-earth, before the events of The Hobbit, using a unique game system. This June, the game will receive two large expansions, giving fans even more choices for their adventures.

On June 2nd, Free League is releasing two new additions to the tabletop role-playing game, The One Ring. The first, Hands of the White Wizard, delves into the schemes of Saruman the White and how his actions sparked the War of the Ring. This expansion includes six new adventures focused on Saruman, along with new characters, enemies, secrets, and background lore for the game.

If you enjoy a warmer, more homey feel, The One Ring is getting a new Hobbit Tales expansion. This add-on provides lots of new content focused on Hobbits, including 5 pre-made adventures that let you explore the Shire. Originally part of The One Ring‘s starter set, it’s now available as a separate expansion for the 2nd edition.

The Trials of Saruman Arrives for 5e Lord of the Rings Roleplaying

If your group enjoys playing Dungeons & Dragons 5th Edition, you might like The Lord of the Rings Roleplaying. It uses rules compatible with 5e, making it a smooth transition to a new game set in Middle-earth. A new expansion for this game will also be released on June 2nd, along with The One Ring.

Trials of Saruman is an adventure expansion designed for the 5th Edition of Dungeons & Dragons, mirroring the content of the Hands of the White Wizard expansion for The One Ring roleplaying game. It offers six adventures set in Middle-earth, all focused on the story of Saruman the White, and has been adapted to work with the 5e rules system.

Free League Publishing will release all of these new tabletop RPG expansions on June 2nd.
