14 Years Later, Crunchyroll Is Finally Streaming Underrated Sports Anime

Crunchyroll, which started in 2017, has quickly become the most popular streaming service for anime lovers around the world. It offers a huge variety of anime shows, with new episodes added every week. Each season, Crunchyroll announces which shows will be available and when you can watch them with subtitles or dubbing. While it’s a go-to place for fans to find and watch anime, Crunchyroll doesn’t have every anime series and movie. The platform regularly updates its selection, adding and removing shows based on popularity and licensing agreements.

Starting May 3rd, 2026, fans can finally stream ‘Galaxy Kickoff!!’, a truly underrated sports anime! Originally airing 39 episodes between 2012 and 2013, the complete series is now available on Crunchyroll with Japanese audio and English subtitles. It’s accessible in many countries, so be sure to visit the official website to confirm availability. The platform added the show without any prior announcement.

What Is Galaxy Kickoff!! About?

The anime series is based on a light novel by Hiroto Kawabata, first published in 2006, and was produced by TYO Animations. It also inspired a manga adaptation, which began appearing in Shueisha’s Saikyou Jump just days after the anime premiered in April 2012. However, the manga was short-lived, with only 17 chapters released while the anime was still airing. The original novel ran for three volumes, concluding in 2013. Despite its release over a decade ago, the anime remains largely unknown and is considered by many to be a hidden gem.

Shou is a sixth grader going through a tough time as his elementary school years come to an end. He’s the only remaining player on his football team, the Momoyama Predators, which means the team has been canceled. Even though he’s not a star player, Shou is passionate about football and determined to rebuild the team. He tries to recruit Erika, who he meets practicing with her dog, but she’s upset to learn there isn’t actually a team for her to join.

He connects with Misaki Shimizu, who shares his goal. Through various challenges, Shou builds a dependable team and discovers his hidden talent: the ability to predict player movements, becoming his biggest strength. The anime concluded in February 2013 with its 39th episode, and no new content has been released since. Currently, it’s only available on Crunchyroll, as it hasn’t gained much popularity outside of Japan.
