Crimson Desert Lacks Roadmap Because Pearl Abyss Isn’t “Baking in Assumptions” About Players’ Wants

Crimson Desert is still generating positive buzz following its launch. The game started with a rapid series of updates and improvements, turning an initially decent release into a compelling action-adventure sandbox that players are really enjoying and continuing to play.

Pearl Abyss, the company behind the game, recently explained to The Washington Post how they’ve consistently released updates so quickly – a feat that usually takes much longer in the gaming industry. According to marketing director Will Powers, their strategy is to develop Crimson Desert as a continuously updated, single-player game – and importantly, without any in-game purchases. This is why they haven’t publicly shared a detailed plan for future content releases.

Honestly, we’ve been constantly updating the game – everything from bug fixes to new content – based on what players are saying and how they’re reacting. We’re not really planning things super far in advance with a strict roadmap, because that feels like guessing what you guys will actually want. We’d rather build based on your feedback instead of making assumptions.

That makes a lot of sense, especially since the developers have responded to player feedback and made significant improvements. We were so impressed by the changes that we reviewed the game again. It quickly overcame its initial issues and has earned a lot of positive sentiment from players thanks to the studio’s willingness to listen to the Greymanes community.

We’re open to ideas, but ultimately, anything included in the game has to originate with our team. We believe some companies are too focused on their own creations to recognize good ideas from external sources – it’s a bit of a Silicon Valley problem, where ego can get in the way of progress. Great ideas can come from anyone, anywhere.

Please continue sharing your fantastic ideas, and give the Pearl Abyss team the time they need to develop Crimson Desert into an unforgettable story.
