Steam Controller reservations explained: How to get stock

The Steam Controller quickly sold out when it first became available, so Steam has now implemented a reservation system to manage demand.

This makes it easier for people to buy what they want and discourages those who try to resell items for profit.

If you weren’t able to order a Steam Controller previously, here’s a guide on how to get one now.

Valve announced in a press release that reservations will open on May 8th at 10am Pacific Time.

For those of us in different time zones, here’s what time that is for you:

  • US Mountain (MT) – 11am
  • US Central (CT) – 12pm
  • US Eastern (ET) – 1pm
  • UK (BST) – 6pm
  • Central Europe (CEST) – 7pm
  • Australia East Coast (AEDT) – 3am, 9 May
  • New Zealand (NZDT) – 5am, 9 May

When the time comes, here’s how to reserve a Steam Controller:

First, sign into your Steam account and head to the Steam Controller store page.

At 10am Pacific Time, you’ll be able to join the waiting list to reserve the controller. Instead of buying it right away, you’ll choose to reserve one.

This will add you to a waiting list, and your account will be reserved based on your position in that list.

We’ll email you as soon as controllers are available again, giving you a chance to buy one. You’ll have 72 hours to finish your purchase after receiving the email, or your reservation will be canceled.

To register, you’ll need to meet certain requirements.

To participate, your Steam account needs to be in good standing, meaning it shouldn’t have any VAC bans. Also, you must have bought something on Steam before April 27, 2026.

If you previously bought a controller in the initial release, you won’t be able to reserve another one from this new shipment.
