Nintendo has officially confirmed the long-expected Nintendo Switch 2 will cost more than previous models. They cite ongoing changes in the market as the reason for the price increase, which they anticipate will last for the foreseeable future. This price adjustment will also apply to the original Switch, Nintendo Switch Online subscriptions, and the Japanese-language version of the new system in Japan.
Starting September 1st, the Switch 2 will be priced at $499.99 in the US, $679.99 in Canada, and €499.99 in Europe – an increase from its previous price of $449.99, $629.99 CAD, and €469.99. In Japan, the Japanese-language version of the Switch 2 will cost ¥59,980 starting May 25th, up from ¥49,980, while the multi-language model will remain at the same price.
Starting July 1st, Nintendo is increasing prices on its Switch consoles and online services. The Switch (OLED Model) will now cost ¥47,980, up from ¥37,980. The standard Switch will retail for ¥43,980, an increase from ¥32,978, and the Switch Lite will be priced at ¥29,980, up from ¥21,978. Nintendo Switch Online Individual Memberships will also see a price hike to ¥400 per month, ¥1000 for three months, and ¥3000 annually – previously ¥306, ¥815, and ¥2,400 respectively. The Family Membership plan will increase from ¥4500 to ¥5800.
The price of Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack is increasing. Individual memberships will now cost ¥5,900, up from ¥4,900, and Family memberships will be ¥9,900, up from ¥8,900.
It’s unclear if these changes will satisfy investor concerns, but customers in Japan, the US, Europe, and Canada have been warned about the upcoming price increases. The bigger issue is whether more price hikes are on the way.
