According to reports, The Devil Wears Prada 2 has already earned more than its predecessor in just one week. The original film made $326.5 million globally, while the sequel surpassed that amount on Thursday with $324 million. This success is encouraging, particularly since director David Frankel has hinted at the possibility of a third movie.

Despite the challenge of rising prices, the new movie appears to be on track to exceed the financial performance of the original. While the 2006 film earned the equivalent of about $534 million today, the sequel’s impressive second weekend suggests it can surpass that amount.

The Devil Wears Prada 2 Is Already a Success

The sequel cost $100 million to make and earned significantly more than the original film’s budget. While some of the money went towards beautiful costumes and filming in places like Milan, most of it was spent on paying the film’s famous actors.

According to a recent report, the lead actresses in the sequel to the beloved fashion comedy each earned a remarkable $12.5 million. The Oscar-winning star reportedly insisted her co-stars, Anne Hathaway and Emily Blunt, receive equal pay – a truly empowering move!

In addition to their $12.5 million salaries, reports suggest they also earned significant bonuses based on how well the movie performed in theaters. If the sequel continues to do well, each of them could earn over $20 million.

The book series continued in 2018 with When Life Gives You Lululemons, which focuses on the story of Emily Charlton, a character previously played by Emily Blunt.

As much as I’d love to see another one, 20th Century Fox hasn’t officially announced a sequel yet. But the director, David Frankel, who thankfully came back for this one, hinted that it’s definitely a possibility, especially since the original writer, Aline Brosh McKenna, was involved again. Fingers crossed!

Frankel recently mentioned that creating the latest film took two decades, and he initially vowed not to do another one. However, he’s now open to the possibility. He admitted that if the chance arose to work with the same actors and revisit those characters, he would be thrilled. Given the franchise’s success, another film seems probable.
