George Clooney Reveals Amal Clooney’s “Dangerous” Birthday Gift to Him

Amal Clooney’s birthday gift to George Clooney had the potential to be intolerably cruel.

George Clooney shared that his wife threw him a big 65th birthday party, complete with a surprise that almost didn’t go as planned.

Amal Clooney revealed she recently surprised her husband, George, with several gifts for his birthday. Speaking to British Vogue at an event celebrating the King’s Trust’s 50th anniversary, she explained she’d even arranged for some of his friends to appear as a surprise. George confirmed this, adding that she’d had his friends ‘posing’ for the occasion.

As Amal, 48, explained, they were “posing as waiters.”

But George noted he can’t quite take surprises like he used to.

The actor joked that surprising someone on their 65th birthday could be risky, saying, ‘You could fall! That might be it for you, so you really have to be cautious when you try to surprise people.’

As for how he fared after the surprise, George joked, “Yeah, well I’m still standing, barely.”

The couple, parents to 9-year-old twins Ella and Alexander, also offered some valuable advice for their children.

George jokingly advised against combining alcohol and food, saying it’s an important lesson for kids: don’t mix them together.

Meanwhile, the human rights lawyer offered more sound guidance.

She explained that they want to encourage people to remain curious, to ask questions about everything, and to question things that don’t seem right, especially given everything happening in the world.

Smiling at his wife’s thoughtful reply, George joked, “She always offers a refined answer, and then I deliver the crucial one.”

But there are some tips that come best from dad.

As Amal joked, “And ask your dad when it comes to drinks!”

Recently, the Oscar winner shared how his kids have taught him a lesson in slowing down.

George recently told Variety that he plans to focus on smaller, more independent films going forward. He explained that if he’s going to be away from his children for work, the project needs to be something he’s truly passionate about creatively.

As he put it, “Money isn’t an issue for me anymore.”

He’s very aware of how lucky he is to be able to choose his acting roles. The Ocean’s Eleven star, who married Amal in 2014, appreciates being able to be selective about the projects he takes on.

Looking back, I realized most of my successful films were just moderately popular, and I think that was actually a good thing. It meant I wasn’t stuck playing one type of role. I had the freedom to take on very different projects – something dramatic like Michael Clayton, and then something completely over-the-top like Burn After Reading.

He said it basically meant he could still work, even if he lost the ability to have a romantic relationship with this woman.
