New Shonen Jump Series Prepares for Cancellation (& Fans Don’t Want It to End)

I’ve noticed another series in Weekly Shonen Jump seems to be winding down, and fans are really upset about it. Shueisha, the publisher, has been going through a lot of changes lately, trying to find the next big thing now that several long-running series have finished. Unfortunately, this means a lot of newer series aren’t lasting very long – they often get cancelled within the first 20 weeks or so.

This year, Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump has already cancelled four manga series, and more cancellations are expected as the magazine plans to launch several new titles. These cancellations are disappointing for fans, especially when promising series like Akira Inui’s Alien Headbutt seem to be ending prematurely – the main character has already achieved what appears to be a final, powerful transformation.

Shonen Jump Likely to Cancel Alien Headbutt Next

Akira Inui’s manga, Alien Headbutt, is just beginning with only 13 chapters released so far, but it looks like the biggest conflicts are already on the horizon. The story centers around Ouga Shirokiba, a young boy who aspires to be a wrestling champion and bring pride to his family. After achieving his dream and being away for years, Ouga returns home to find it overrun by aliens who have either captured or killed everyone. Now, he’s using his wrestling skills to fight back against the invaders.

Ouga, struggling to keep up with his powerful alien enemies, intentionally infects himself with an alien parasite hoping it will heal him and boost his strength. However, he soon discovers the parasite is actually a dangerous weapon that drives people into a violent rage. He learns the aliens have been experimenting on humans, creating an army of parasite-infected soldiers. Now, in the latest developments, Ouga has taken on so many parasites that he’s transformed into a heavily armored being as he desperately tries to save his family.

What’s Going on With Alien Headbutt?

Although the manga Alien Headbutt has gained some popularity with international fans due to its wrestling theme and interesting main character, recent developments are causing concern about its future. The series has been moving very quickly since Chapter 13, leading many to believe it might be cancelled soon. This worry is compounded by reports that the manga hasn’t performed well with readers in Japan, where it’s struggling to find a solid audience. Ultimately, Japanese reader feedback is the most important factor in determining the series’ fate, despite its growing international appeal.

If a series isn’t popular with magazine readers, it’s a strong sign it won’t sell well in Japan either. Low sales mean the series won’t gain any traction, and any hopes for an anime adaptation are unlikely to materialize unless it starts performing better soon. While Alien Headbutt could potentially improve as the story reaches its climax, current trends suggest that’s not going to happen.
