A clear frontrunner for Game of the Year 2026 has emerged, and it’s leading by a significant margin. Several excellent games—including Resident Evil Requiem, Pokemon Pokopia, Pragmata, Saros, and Mewgenics—have already launched this year to positive reviews. However, a new game releasing later this week has quickly surpassed them all, becoming the highest-rated title of 2026 to date.
Okay, so the reviews for Forza Horizon 6 are finally out, and everyone seems to love it! Seriously, it’s currently sitting at a 92 on Metacritic, which is the highest score any game has gotten all year. It’s pretty amazing because no other game in 2026 has even broken 90 yet. Pokemon Pokopia and Resident Evil Requiem came closest, both with 89s, but Forza Horizon 6 is definitely the one to beat!
With such positive feedback, Forza Horizon 6 is currently the frontrunner for Game of the Year. However, we’re only halfway through 2026, and many more games are still to come. Titles like Marvel’s Wolverine, 007 First Light, Gears of War: E-Day, and Grand Theft Auto 6 are expected to be strong contenders as well. It’s uncertain if any of these will surpass Forza Horizon 6‘s impressive score, but Xbox’s new racing game is sure to stay in the Game of the Year conversation for a long time.
Get ready to race! Forza Horizon 6 comes out next week on May 19th for Xbox Series X/S and PC. If you buy the Premium Edition, you can start playing even sooner – early access begins tomorrow, May 15th.
