Natalie Portman’s R-Rated DC Comics Movie Quietly Becomes Worldwide Streaming Hit Ahead Of HBO Reboot

Natalie Portman is finding new success in 2026 for one of her most beloved films of all time.

I’ve been a fan of Natalie Portman for years, and it’s amazing to see the range she’s shown, from big blockbusters like the Star Wars prequels to really powerful, critically acclaimed films like Black Swan. Lately, I’ve noticed a lot of people are discovering one of her great movies from around the mid-2000s, and it’s awesome that more people are getting to appreciate her work!

The movie V for Vendetta, originally released in 2006, is currently a big hit on Paramount+ in many Latin American countries. It’s now the #1 film in Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, El Salvador, Uruguay, and Venezuela.

Natalie Portman and Hugo Weaving led the cast of V for Vendetta, which is currently available on demand in the United States. The film, based on the popular comic book by Alan Moore and David Lloyd, also featured Stephen Fry, John Hurt, and Stephen Rea in supporting roles.

When V for Vendetta was released, Hollywood wasn’t making many ambitious comic book or superhero movies. Despite this, the 2006 film was a commercial success, earning $134.7 million worldwide on a budget of around $50-54 million.

Natalie Portman’s work includes the comic book film V for Vendetta, and she later became known for playing Jane Foster in the Thor movies within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Hugo Weaving also found success in the MCU, portraying Red Skull in Captain America: The First Avenger.

In a review for ScreenRant, Grant Hermanns highlighted how director James McTeigue and the Wachowskis successfully modernized the original V for Vendetta story. He also noted that the film’s creators made a smart choice in casting a strong group of British actors, which helped bring the setting to life authentically.

Earlier this year, Hermanns discussed the lasting impact of V for Vendetta with James McTeigue for ScreenRant on the film’s 20th anniversary. McTeigue explained that the movie aimed to encourage people to speak up and express their opinions, saying, “Everyone has a voice, and everyone gets to vote, and that’s a great thing. If you disagree with something, make a piece of art, write something, do something.”

Even now, V for Vendetta remains popular with a dedicated fanbase, largely due to its powerful political themes. Its recent success on streaming platforms shows that new audiences are discovering and connecting with the film. This is a good time for a reimagining of the story, especially with Natalie Portman’s upcoming DC project.

In November 2025, news broke that HBO is developing a TV series based on V for Vendetta, in partnership with DC Studios and Warner Bros. Television. Ben Stephenson will executive produce the show, and Pete Jackson is writing the script for the adaptation.

As of today, HBO and DC Studios haven’t announced anything new about a potential V for Vendetta reboot. If it happens, it will likely exist outside the main DC Universe storyline, separate from the first chapter of films and shows called “Gods and Monsters.”

V for Vendetta is available for streaming on Paramount+ worldwide, and on VOD in the United States.
