Nintendo has announced a new game for the Switch, which is a fresh take on a classic title originally released for the Game Boy in 1992. While there are no plans announced for a version on the next-generation Switch console, the Switch version will be playable on the new system when it launches, thanks to backward compatibility. Currently, the game is only slated for release sometime in 2026, with no firm date available.
I remember playing Snow Bros in the arcades, and then I was so excited when Data East brought Tumblepop to the Game Boy in 1992! It was a really fun platformer, but sadly it only ever came out on that one system, so it kind of faded away over the years. Now, though, it’s getting a revival! A Korean team, CRT Games, along with Daewon Media Game Lab, are making a new version called Tumble: Memories. They’re calling it a ‘reimagining,’ which basically means it’s a remake, but they’re not promising it’ll be exactly like the original. It’s cool to see it coming back, but I’m hoping for a trailer soon to get a better look!

What’s New With the 1990s Cult Classic
This updated version features improved graphics and controls, but the developers have made sure to keep the original game’s fun and charm. Players who prefer the classic experience can also enjoy the original 1991 arcade game and the 1992 Game Boy version, which are both included.
Players looking for a fresh experience alongside familiar gameplay will find new stages and modes to enjoy. These include a challenging survival mode, a fast-paced boss rush, and a unique “Tum Tum” mode. The update also features a new online scoreboard to track progress and a special in-game gallery with bonus content.

We still don’t know when the Nintendo Switch game will be released or how much it will cost. There’s no trailer yet, but some screenshots have been shown. The game will be available digitally on the Nintendo eShop, and Playasia will also offer physical copies – both standard and limited editions – in North America and Europe. Playasia says pre-orders for the limited editions will open soon, though it’s unknown if a release date will be announced at the same time. Given that the game is planned for release this year and it’s already mid-year, we can expect an announcement soon, unless the release is pushed back to late 2026.
