Casualty caught in schedule shake-up this weekend as Eurovision sees it dropped for usual slot

The show Casualty won’t be on TV at its usual time this Saturday, May 15th, because the BBC is making schedule adjustments for the Eurovision Song Contest.

The long-running fan favourite medical drama typically airs on Saturdays on BBC One.

This week, the usual episode of the soap opera will be skipped to allow for live coverage of the Eurovision Song Contest final. The contest begins at 8pm and will continue until 11:50pm.

Casualty will be back in its normal slot next Saturday (23 May).

However, fans of the show will likely be disappointed. Last Saturday’s episode ended with a cliffhanger involving Dr. Flynn Byron and his complicated history with Colonel Jack Bard, a storyline that’s been central to the current season, ‘Lethal Legacy’.

Fans may recall Flynn seemed very shaken when Bard – portrayed by Mark Womack, previously known from Emmerdale – first appeared in the emergency department. However, the show didn’t reveal what their past relationship was.

Saturday’s episode offered some new clues, showing a soldier working for Bard was hurt in a chemical explosion at Wyvern Hill Estate.

I have to say, the tension in this scene really got to me. Flynn was clearly trying to get to the bottom of those disturbing bruises on Bard’s kidney, pressing another soldier for answers. But Bard stepped in, cutting him off – it was a powerful moment, and left me wondering exactly what Bard is hiding.

“Your team did well today, Byron. No deadwood,” he said.

After Flynn brought up a man named Adam, stating he was still relevant, Bard said he didn’t recognize the name.

We’ll have to hold off on revealing who Adam is and his relationship to Flynn until next Saturday’s episode.

You can watch past episodes of Casualty on BBC iPlayer right now. New episodes will be available on BBC One starting Saturday, May 23rd, and will also be available on iPlayer from 6am that same day.
