Details of a new Xbox Elite Controller have surfaced online before Microsoft has officially announced it. The original Elite Controller, first launched in 2015, was a big hit with Xbox players. A second version, the Elite Controller Series 2, came out in 2019 with significant improvements. Now, almost seven years later, Microsoft appears to be working on a major update to the controller, which could be released in the coming months.
A new image of the Xbox Elite Controller Series 3 has surfaced, according to The Verge. The controller’s overall design is familiar, keeping the same layout as previous models with customizable paddles on the back. Some key upgrades include a slightly redesigned D-pad and the addition of scroll wheel buttons on the underside. Microsoft has also made the battery removable, which should extend the controller’s lifespan. Finally, a pairing button has been added, making it easier to connect the controller to cloud gaming devices.
Considering the timing of this recent leak, it looks like Xbox is getting ready to announce the new Elite Controller 3 very soon. They’re holding their annual Xbox Games Showcase on June 7th, where they’ll reveal a lot of upcoming games. It’s highly likely we’ll see the Elite Controller Series 3 at the showcase, and it will probably highlight all of the controller’s new features.

But looking at how they’ve launched Elite controllers before, it usually doesn’t take too long after the announcement. So, I’m hoping we’ll see it before 2026 is over!
