The newest expansion for the Pokémon Trading Card Game, Chaos Rising, which focuses on Mega Evolution and features Greninja, is about to be released. This set introduces Mega Greninja to the game, alongside Mega Floette, Mega Dragalge, and Mega Pyroar, all making their debut from Pokémon Legends: Z-A. While it’s a smaller set, Chaos Rising includes some very rare cards that might be hard to find when opening booster packs.
While preparing my review of the Chaos Rising set, I opened 55 packs of cards. I think this set has fewer impressive full-art cards compared to Perfect Order, though that’s likely just bad luck on my part. I did get some rarer cards, but nothing really stood out. Still, opening so many packs allowed me to estimate the pull rates for Chaos Rising. These numbers are based on my experience and should give you a general idea of how difficult it will be to find rare cards when the set releases on May 22nd.
Estimated Pull Rates for Pokemon TCG: Mega Evolution – Chaos Rising

Okay, so the new Pokémon TCG set, Chaos Rising, is officially out! The Elite Trainer Boxes, booster packs, and bigger booster boxes dropped on May 22nd, but I actually got to play around with it a little earlier – the pre-release events started on May 9th. I managed to open a good chunk of packs – 55 from each of the main Chaos Rising products. It’s about the same amount I opened when I was checking out the pull rates for Ascended Heroes and Perfect Order, so I’m ready to see what this set has to offer!
I didn’t pull as many of the most desirable cards from this set. Specifically, it was difficult to find ex cards, especially the full-art versions. I also opened three copies of the same Mega ex, instead of getting a variety of different cards, which didn’t help. It’s possible I just had bad luck, but it seems like a lot of people might end up with too many Mega Dragalge ex cards. If you’re interested in the specific numbers and pull rates for ex cards, full art cards, and new Megas, I’ve broken down the totals below.
These numbers are based on my own experience opening packs, so your results might vary a little. However, I opened 55 packs, which is a decent amount, so this should give you a pretty good idea of what to expect overall.
ex Pull Rates

I opened 55 packs of the Chaos Rising set and found 14 ‘ex’ cards. That’s about one ‘ex’ card for every four packs, which is similar to the expected pull rate for Perfect Order. I did get a few duplicates though – three copies of the Mega Dragalge ex and two of the Mega Greninja ex. While that’s good if you’re trying to build a deck with those specific cards, it wasn’t ideal from a collector’s perspective since there wasn’t much variety.
Getting a full art ex card remains difficult. I recently opened 55 packs and pulled 4 full art ex cards, but none of them were the new ones from the Legends: Z-A set featuring Mega Pokémon. Based on my experience, your chances of getting any full art ex card are around 1 in 14, which is better than with the Perfect Order set. However, all the rare cards in this set are Ultra Rares, making the Special Illustration Rare (SIR) ex cards particularly hard to find. I didn’t pull a single SIR ex card, although I did get some SIR cards that weren’t ex cards.
New Legends Z-A Mega Pull Rates

Let’s discuss the new Mega Evolution ex cards debuting in the Chaos Rising expansion. Similar to previous Mega Evolution sets, this one introduces a few new Mega Pokémon from Legends: Z-A to the Pokémon TCG. This set features Mega Greninja, Mega Floette, Mega Pyroar, and Mega Dragalge. I managed to pull at least one card of each of these, except for Mega Floette. Unfortunately, I didn’t get any full art versions of these cards, which was disappointing.
I opened 55 packs and found 6 special ‘ex’ cards with the new Legends: Z-A Megas. That means I had about a 1 in 9 chance of getting one. I have no idea how rare the full-art versions of these cards are, but I suspect they’ll be the most sought-after cards in the set because they’re new and seem to be difficult to find.
Illustration Rare, Special Illustration Rare, and Ultra Rare Pull Rates

I was a little let down by the number of rare illustrated cards I got from the Chaos Rising set, compared to previous Mega Evolution sets. This is mainly because many of the full art cards in this set have a simpler design – a large Pokémon image with a colorful background – instead of a detailed scene. However, I did get a good number of full art cards overall. From opening 55 packs of Chaos Rising, here’s what I pulled:
- 6 Illustration Rares
- 8 Ultra Rares
This set seems to have more Ultra Rare cards than recent ones, with Illustration Rares appearing at about the same rate as Perfect Order cards. However, the very rarest cards are much harder to find. After opening 55 packs, I didn’t pull any Special Illustration Rares or cards of even higher rarity.
If you’re mainly looking for full-art cards, your chances of getting one are a little better in this set compared to previous sets with Mega Evolution cards. You have just over a 1 in 9 chance of pulling an Illustration Rare, and even better odds – almost 1 in 7 – for Ultra Rares. However, based on my experience, getting a Special Illustration Rare will likely be very difficult. There’s only one Mega Hyper Rare card in this set, featuring Mega Greninja ex, and both it and the Special Illustration Rares will be exceptionally hard to find.
The card pull rates for the new Chaos Rising set are somewhat inconsistent. While the overall chance of getting any card is about the same as Perfect Order (which was already a little lower than usual), it’s easy to find the common full-art cards. However, the very rarest cards are extremely difficult to obtain. It will be interesting to see how players fare when Chaos Rising is released on May 22nd.
