The Boys Finale’s Post-Credits Scene Choice Was the Right Decision & a Big Relief

The finale of The Boys made a smart decision with its post-credits scene. After seven seasons on Prime Video, the show has wrapped up the main story, including the conflict between Homelander and Butcher. While this marks the end of the original series, the franchise will continue with several spinoffs. Season 5 cleverly set up one of these, introducing new superheroes for the Vought Rising prequel starring Jensen Ackles as Soldier Boy. But did the finale also include a scene after the credits to tease future storylines?

As a fan, I was definitely expecting a little something extra after the finale, since both The Boys and Gen V have used those post-credit scenes to tease what’s coming next. Gen V gave us the Supe-killing virus, and The Boys brought back Soldier Boy! But honestly, I was pleasantly surprised that the finale didn’t have one. Instead, we got a really cool series of behind-the-scenes photos celebrating all the hard work that went into making the show. It was a nice way to wrap things up and appreciate everyone involved.

It’s Good That The Boys Doesn’t Have A Post-Credits Scene

I was pretty sure The Boys would have a scene after the credits, especially after hearing Soldier Boy wouldn’t be in the last episode. I thought that news might be a trick, and we’d still get a quick glimpse of Jensen Ackles to hint at the Vought Rising prequel, which is planned for 2027. Alternatively, I expected a teaser for The Boys: Mexico – the spin-off that’s currently being made – maybe showing something happening in Mexico.

It was a nice surprise that the episode didn’t have a typical post-credits scene. Instead, it highlighted the people who made the show, set to the song “If I Ever Leave This World Alive” by Flogging Molly. This felt like a more appropriate goodbye to the series, letting the powerful events of the finale truly sink in for viewers.

The show The Boys sometimes struggles to successfully balance being a satire of superhero stories with actually being a superhero show. It often ends up mirroring the tropes it’s trying to make fun of. Adding a post-credits scene would have reinforced this problem, as those ‘what’s next?’ teases are common in Marvel Cinematic Universe films (even the creators of Avengers: Endgame wisely avoided one). The finale of The Boys is much more impactful and satisfying without it, and it’s commendable that the creators resisted the urge to include one.

The Boys series finale is now streaming on Prime Video.
