8 Years Later, Cancelled Shonen Jump Revival Anime Confirms World Premiere Date

A previously cancelled manga series from Shonen Jump is making a comeback with a new anime this summer, and the premiere date has been announced. Shonen Jump has had a successful year overall, as while the magazine sometimes cancels underperforming series, many of its titles are now being adapted into anime – including some that ended a long time ago.

Tsuyoshi Takaki’s manga series, Black Torch, was first published in Shueisha’s Jump Square and Jump+ from 2016 to 2018, but it didn’t gain much popularity at the time. The story was relatively short, spanning just five volumes. Now, with a new anime series premiering this summer, Black Torch is poised to reach a wider audience. Fans will even get a sneak peek at the anime with a special world premiere event at Anime Expo 2026 before its official release.

When Does Black Torch Anime Come Out?

Viz Media is excited to announce the world premiere of Black Torch at Anime Expo 2026 on Friday, July 3rd. The panel will include voice actors AJ Beckles (Jiro) and Keith Silverstein (Rago), and share behind-the-scenes stories about making the anime. Attendees will be the first to see the complete first episode with English subtitles, a few days before it becomes available to the public on July 4th.

The anime series Black Torch will premiere on July 4th as part of the Summer 2026 season. Crunchyroll will stream the episodes for viewers in North and South America, Europe, Africa, Oceania, the Middle East, and CIS countries. Since the original manga finished almost ten years ago, this anime will likely be many fans’ first experience with the story in animated form.
