Netflix is planning a big summer for anime fans, with both new shows and returning favorites arriving in May and June. This year has already been fantastic for anime on the platform, with several popular series and exclusive titles premiering. What’s especially exciting is that Netflix is also adding many other well-loved anime to its library.
Netflix has a strong selection of shows and movies for the rest of May, and they’re already announcing new anime titles for June 1st. They recently announced two new releases for May 25th and three more for June 1st, plus the addition of the anime series Milky Subway: The Galactic Limited Express to their streaming library. Details are below.
Netflix Confirms New Anime Releases for May & June 2026
Netflix’s upcoming line up for May and June 2026 include the likes of:
- May 25 – Blue Lock: VS. U-20 JAPAN
- May 25 – My Dress-Up Darling: Season 2
- May 25 – Assassination Classroom: Season 2
- June 1 – Shangri-La Frontier: Season 2
- June 1 – MILKY☆SUBWAY THE GALACTIC LIMITED EXPRESS
- June 1 – ONE PIECE: Whole Cake Island – Episodes 850-877
I’m so excited about these new anime releases! The rest of the month is shaping up to be amazing with a bunch of sequels finally dropping. We’ve been able to watch the new seasons of shows like Blue Lock, My Dress-Up Darling, and Assassination Classroom on Crunchyroll and Hulu, but having them on Netflix is going to bring in a whole new wave of fans. Honestly, I’m most hyped for Shangri-La Frontier – I think it’s going to be huge!
Shangri-La Frontier is quickly becoming a standout show this season, especially considering it hasn’t gotten much attention until now. Viewers have really enjoyed watching the main character improve his gaming abilities throughout the series. Now that it’s available on Netflix, it has the potential to reach a much larger audience. This show represents a completely new addition to Netflix’s offerings.
Milky Subway: The Galactic Limited Express Confirms Netflix Release Date
Milky☆Subway: The Galactic Limited Express first appeared in Japan last year as a movie based on a popular TV anime series. The project started as a short film online, and Yohei Kameyama – who wrote, directed, and produced it – expanded it into this full-length feature. Kameyama also handled character design, animation, and modeling himself, with sound provided by Bit Grooove Promotion. Momoko Terasawa voices Chiharu, and Anna Nagase plays Makina.
The movie follows Chiharu, a super-powered woman, and Makina, a cyborg, who are arrested for violating space traffic rules. They’re forced to work off their sentence by cleaning the ‘Milky☆Subway,’ an interplanetary train, alongside a quirky crew: the super-powered duo Akane and Kanata, and cyborg buddies Kurt and Max. What should have been a straightforward community service job quickly turns chaotic when the train unexpectedly blasts off into deep space! Now, the crew must deal with the confusion and mayhem as the runaway train hurtles forward with no clear destination or purpose – it’s a wild, unprecedented space adventure fueled by sheer momentum!
