Considering the film is based on such a famous story as The Odyssey, it wasn’t surprising that Christopher Nolan’s adaptation would be long – and it definitely is.
The movie’s runtime has been announced as 172 minutes, or nearly three hours. It will be released in theaters around the world on Friday, July 17th.
Although the official runtime hasn’t been confirmed yet, it appeared on AMC’s website for a short time before being removed. While the length might not be 100% accurate, this is the most reliable information we have so far.
Despite its considerable length, the film is actually a bit shorter than Nolan’s previous movie, the award-winning Oppenheimer, which ran for over three hours. However, most fans will likely be happy with the amount of content they’re getting in theaters.

Lupita Nyong’o has addressed the negative reaction some people had to her being cast as Helen of Troy in the upcoming movie.
In a recent interview with Elle, the acclaimed actor described the film as a mythological tale, adding that she fully supported the director’s vision and his unique take on the story.
She explained that the show’s actors reflect the diversity of the world. She doesn’t feel the need to respond to criticism, as it will always be present regardless of whether she addresses it or not.
Last week, Nolan addressed concerns about the film’s historical accuracy, drawing a parallel to how he approached his 2014 science fiction hit, Interstellar.
According to the filmmaker, both imagining the distant future, like in ‘Interstellar,’ and recreating the ancient past come down to the same question: ‘What’s the most compelling way to speculate, and how can I build a believable world around it?’ he explained to Time magazine.
As a film lover, I always hope audiences connect with a movie, even if it sparks debate. I remember when Interstellar came out – a lot of scientists had issues with its accuracy! But it’s important to show you approached the project with seriousness and thought, not just as a bit of fun.
The Odyssey opens in cinemas on 17 July 2026.
