A trailer has just been released for “Pressure,” a movie that tells the story of the three days leading up to D-Day in World War II.
Andrew Scott, known for his role as Sherlock, stars as James Stagg, Britain’s top weather forecaster. Brendan Fraser, famous from The Mummy, plays Dwight D. Eisenhower, the Supreme Allied Commander. Completing the main cast is Kerry Condon, known from Formula 1, as Captain Kay Summersby, who assisted James Stagg.
As a huge movie fan, I was excited to learn this film is based on David Haig’s incredibly well-received play. What’s even cooler is that Haig himself worked on the movie’s script, teaming up with the director, Anthony Maras, to bring it to life on the big screen.
The trailer highlights the difficult choice facing Stagg: whether to proceed with D-Day or cancel it because of an approaching storm.

The movie follows the 72 hours before D-Day, when everything was set for the invasion except for a crucial factor: the weather in Britain.
James Stagg, Britain’s top weather forecaster, faced immense pressure to predict the weather for what would become the most important forecast of all time. His prediction was critical to the success of the D-Day landings, and a mistake could have doomed the massive invasion. Any hesitation also risked alerting German forces to the Allies’ plans.
Dwight D. Eisenhower, the Supreme Allied Commander, carried the immense weight of the war on his shoulders. He was plagued by memories of a disastrous practice run for D-Day and, with only his close advisor Captain Kay Summersby to share his concerns, he faced the final, critical decision with just hours remaining. The lives of millions and the outcome of the war depended on it.

The series features Damian Lewis (known for Wolf Hall) as Field Marshall Bernard Montgomery, and Chris Messina (Based on a True Story) as Irving P. Krick, who served as Eisenhower’s meteorologist during the war.
The movie is now playing in the US and critics are really liking it. It currently has an 87% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, with an average score of 7.2 out of 10.
Pressure will be released in UK cinemas on Wednesday 9 September.
