NCSoft, a Korean game company, has announced that their online multiplayer game, Horizon Steel Frontiers, will be delayed and won’t be released in 2026 as initially planned.
According to the latest report to investors, the game – which takes place in the post-apocalyptic world created by Guerrilla – will now be released in the first six months of 2027.
WCCFTech noticed a detail that doesn’t say if the announced release timeframe is just for Korea, or for everywhere else. I think the game will probably come out in Asia first, and then be released globally if it does well.
This project has been in the works for a long time, but it wasn’t officially announced until November 2025. Although it will also be playable on computers, it will run using Purple, a special emulator created by NCSoft for mobile games.
The company has seen the demand for a PlayStation 5 version of the game, but I doubt it will ever be released. They seem to be handling this game in a peculiar way, similar to other mobile games they’ve worked on.
While it’s still early, the game sounds promising and might be more in line with what players were hoping for in a multiplayer Horizon experience, perhaps even more so than Guerrilla’s previously planned Hunters Gathering.
The game takes place in a new area called the Deadlands, visually influenced by landscapes in Arizona and Mexico. While the art style is recognizable, it incorporates Korean elements, which should help the game become popular in Asia – likely its strongest market.
If the game launches as planned in the first half of 2027, we’ll likely get a good look at gameplay footage soon, particularly at gaming events in Asia like G-Star. I’m really curious to see how players react to it and what Sony’s strategy will be.
