Horror movies had a fantastic run in 2025, making it a perfect time for a parody. After a thirteen-year hiatus, the sixth Scary Movie is here, with the Wayans brothers returning to write and star alongside Anna Faris and Regina Hall, who are also back for another installment.
How it all begins…
Like the previous installments, the sixth Scary Movie heavily references the Scream films that originally inspired the series, even adopting a title initially intended for one of those films. The movie begins with a typical celebrity cameo – Teyana Taylor playing a familiar character – and a line from her previous work, before launching into the main storyline. And that storyline is very familiar: a Ghostface killer is terrorizing the town of Woodsboro, just like in several of the earlier movies.
What can you expect from this latest Scary movie?
Like all the movies in this series, the plot mostly exists to string together a ton of parodies and jokes – it’s that classic, rapid-fire style we’ve come to expect. What I really appreciated is that they didn’t hold back at all – no worrying about being politically correct or ‘woke,’ which meant they could poke fun at pretty much anyone and anything. They even went after some pretty current stuff like the trans community, influencers, and, surprisingly, the Epstein files. Honestly, some of the jokes landed brilliantly, but a lot just fell flat. The filmmakers clearly love parody – there’s a particularly clever bit referencing the recent Michael Jackson biopic – and they had plenty to work with, spoofing films like Smile, Long Legs, The Substance, and Sinners. They even went back to Get Out, which is already a decade old! And that’s the thing with parody – it dates a movie fast. Thinking back to the original film from 2000, besides Scream, how many of those parodies would even register with audiences who weren’t even born when it came out?
End credits scene? : Yes, several that run to midway through the credits
