God of War Laufey Is Much Closer to Releasing on PS5 Than You Think

Unlike most major announcements, God of War Laufey is not years away.

Early reports suggested a new game featuring Kratos’ wife, Faye, might come out in 2027. However, despite a recent 20-minute gameplay showcase, Sony didn’t announce a release date. According to Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier, this doesn’t necessarily mean the game is delayed.

Writing on Bluesky, the reliable reporter said:

Just so you know, don’t worry too much about the fact that we haven’t gotten a release date for the God of War Laufey project yet. Unlike many other big game announcements, this one isn’t expected to be released far in the future.

Game development is unpredictable, and Jason Schreier is choosing his words carefully, but it seems like a 2027 release is still a strong possibility.

Honestly, the fact that they showed a full 20 minutes of uninterrupted gameplay right from the beginning is a pretty strong indication the game is nearly finished. It really shows Santa Monica Studio’s confidence and suggests it’s close to release.

While there are always exceptions, Sony usually waits to announce games until they’re almost ready to launch. It seems likely we’ll be playing Laufey within the next year or so.

I’m starting to think 2027 might resemble 2020, with big PlayStation games releasing right before a new console generation, just like The Last of Us Part II and Ghost of Tsushima did before the PS5 came out.

It’s likely we’ll see major releases like God of War Laufey and Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet before the PlayStation 6 comes out – that’s really exciting!
