Domino’s Pizza jokingly teased the new God of War game on social media, which led to a brief disagreement with Sony.
After seeing the new God of War trailer, the UK branch of a pizza company joked: “A God of War game without Kratos is like our Pepperoni Passion pizza without the pepperoni!” They were likely trying to get people talking now that the soccer season has ended.
The post became incredibly popular, receiving over 70,000 likes, but Santa Monica Studio wasn’t impressed. They responded with a playful jab: “Okay thanks for the feedback, Domino’s Pizza corporate account.” This reply quickly gained even more attention, racking up over 95,000 likes and overshadowing the original post.
I was surprised to see the creator of God of War respond at all, since Sony’s studios typically keep a tight lid on things on social media.
It seems like there’s been some negativity surrounding the announcement of the new God of War game, likely due to the typical online hype and attempts to profit from it that happen with major game releases.
Honestly, I don’t believe Domino’s intended to create a serious conflict. They simply recognized a chance to engage and took it. Whoever manages their social media account has done a great job, as this whole interaction is now nearing five million views.
Sony has confirmed Kratos will appear in future God of War titles, making this whole situation seem like an overreaction. It’s a good reminder that social media isn’t as enjoyable as it once was.
