Sabrina Carpenter has quickly become a global pop sensation in the last year, but with fame come challenges. On May 23rd, someone unexpectedly appeared at her home and tried to break in.
31-year-old William Applegate reportedly trespassed onto a neighbor’s property to get around the security fence surrounding a singer’s home. He then allegedly tried to open her front door and rang the doorbell. The singer described his actions as intentional, calculated, and frightening. After he tried to enter, security told him to leave, but he refused and stayed until the police arrested him. However, Applegate returned less than 24 hours later, leaving only after another confrontation with security. The next day, he parked in front of her house for hours, and police had to intervene to make him move.
Sabrina Carpenter Stalking Case
Carpenter obtained a temporary restraining order against William Applegate because she fears for her safety. The order prevents Applegate from coming within 100 yards of Carpenter, her sister, and her sister’s partner. Carpenter stated in court documents that she has never met or communicated with Applegate and has no desire to do so, adding that his stalking and surveillance have caused her significant emotional distress. A police detective, Peter Doomanis, also submitted a statement indicating that Applegate has become dangerously fixated on Carpenter, exhibiting behavior consistent with stalking and posing an increasing risk to her safety. The restraining order will be reviewed at a court hearing later this month and could be extended.
