Wolverine will soon return in a new Marvel Studios project, marking his first appearance since Deadpool & Wolverine. When he does, he’ll be sporting one of his most iconic looks from the comic books. For many years, Hugh Jackman has brilliantly portrayed Wolverine, making the character a huge success in Marvel adaptations.
Hugh Jackman, known for playing Wolverine in three solo movies and multiple X-Men films across different timelines, has now become part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe with Deadpool & Wolverine. This movie marks several milestones for Marvel: it’s the first R-rated film in the MCU, and the first to truly center on the mutant characters that came to Marvel when Disney bought Fox.
As a huge Marvel fan, I think this movie is easily one of the best in the MCU so far. But don’t worry, I don’t think we’ve seen the last of Wolverine! There’s a good chance he’ll be back in the upcoming X-Men movie – I hear Jake Schreier, who’s directing Thunderbolts, is involved. Plus, rumors are flying that Hugh Jackman might even show up in Avengers: Doomsday in 2026! And just to keep us excited, we’re getting another Marvel take on Wolverine later this year, too.
Season 2 of X-Men ’97 premieres on Disney+ on July 1st. This animated Marvel series continues the story of the original X-Men: The Animated Series, with the first season launching on March 20, 2024. A new trailer for the upcoming season was also released, hinting at a major development for the character Wolverine.
X-Men ’97 Season 2 Brings Back A Classic Wolverine Suit
Hugh Jackman’s portrayal of Wolverine has featured numerous costumes over the years, and in 2024’s Deadpool & Wolverine, he finally wore the iconic yellow and blue X-Men suit from the comics. The film’s multiverse storyline also showed different versions of Wolverine, many sporting costumes directly inspired by the comics. One version had Wolverine’s classic brown and tan outfit, and was even poised to battle a version of Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk. Unfortunately, Deadpool interrupted things before the fight could happen, leaving fans unable to see the suit in action.
The trailer for X-Men ’97 season 2 revealed that Wolverine will be sporting a new suit when the show returns – the classic brown and tan look! Fans get multiple glimpses of the costume, including during a scene in the X-Jet and as the X-Men prepare for a fight. This version of the suit is sleeveless with brown shorts.
Another Major Wolverine Element Will Be Back In X-Men ’97 Season 2
In addition to his new brown and tan suit, Logan will once again have his signature adamantium claws in the upcoming season 2 of X-Men ’97. The trailer shows Wolverine extending his claws, confirming they are the durable metal versions, not the bone claws he briefly had before. This is significant because Magneto removed the adamantium from Wolverine’s skeleton during a fight in the season 1 finale, an event that nearly killed him. Fortunately, Wolverine has fully recovered.
It’s still unclear how Wolverine will regain his adamantium claws or how long it will take. The series has already shown him moving past his original yellow and blue costume, and it seems he may wear even more outfits before the second season of X-Men ’97 concludes.
