A longtime actor has been killed in a brutal stabbing incident in Los Angeles.
James Handy, an actor known for his roles in Top Gun: Maverick and Jumanji, reportedly died on June 3rd in Tarzana. According to The Los Angeles Times, police say he was killed by his girlfriend’s son. He was 81 years old.
Around 9:30 a.m., police received a strange 911 call from someone claiming, “I am the son of man, I just killed the man of sin,” according to a statement from the LAPD.
When police arrived at the home, they found Handy unconscious in the front yard with a stab wound to his chest, according to the LAPD. Paramedics rushed him to a nearby hospital, but he was pronounced dead there.
Besides the unusual 911 call, the suspect—44-year-old Michael Gledhill, according to the LAPD—also spoke directly to officers at the location.
Okay, so get this – the guy literally stopped the police as they were driving up! He just waved them down and was like, ‘Yeah, I’m the one you’re looking for!’ Can you believe the nerve? And the weirdest part? He lives with the victim’s girlfriend… his mom! I mean, seriously, this case is getting crazier by the minute. I’ve been following it non-stop, and this detail just… wow. It’s just so messed up, and I need to know everything!
Gledhill was arrested and charged with murder, and is being held at the Van Nuys Jail. His bail has been set at $2 million, the LA Times reports.
Officials think this was a one-time event and have stated that the public is currently safe.

Beyond his memorable roles as the bartender in Top Gun: Maverick and the exterminator in the 1995 film Jumanji, Handy also appeared in many well-known TV series during his career, including Beverly Hills, 90210, Melrose Place, ER, The West Wing, The Practice, Alias, and The Young and the Restless.
He also appeared in many popular crime dramas, including Castle, CSI: NY, NCIS: Los Angeles, 9-1-1, NYPD Blue, Criminal Minds, Law & Order, Profiler, and The X-Files.
