Completing quests in Gothic 1 Remake can be tough, particularly when you first start playing. The game doesn’t offer much guidance, and it won’t automatically mark your objectives on the map like many newer RPGs do. Instead, you’ll need to carefully listen to conversations, explore the game world, and solve problems yourself.
As soon as you arrive at Old Camp, you’ll likely encounter a quest called “The Price of Magic.” After walking through the marketplace, Torrez will automatically start a conversation with you. If you ask him about getting magic, he’ll need a Blank Parchment and two Wolf Claws. This guide will show you where to find those items and how to finish the quest.
How to Complete The Price of Magic Quest in Gothic 1 Remake
Okay, so Torrez wants a Blank Parchment and two Wolf Claws. I’m tackling the Wolf Claws first – thankfully, they’re way easier to get than the parchment, so I figure I’ll knock those out quickly.
Exit the Old Camp through either gate and start exploring the area. Watch out for animals on the paths and in the forests. You can ignore any creatures you find that aren’t wolves. When you encounter a pack of wolves, defeat them and search their bodies. You only need two Wolf Claws for this task, so hunting a couple of packs should be sufficient. Once you have the Wolf Claws, return to the Old Camp and begin searching for the Blank Parchment.
As you explore, you’ll meet characters like Fisk who offer information about items if you give them Ore Nuggets. If you haven’t talked to them already, it’s best to ignore their offers. The information isn’t essential, and you’ll want to save your Ore Nuggets for other, more important things early in the game.
Finding the Blank Parchment is easier than you might think! Just go back to the entrance of the Old Camp and take the path on the right. Follow it until you reach Graham, the map seller. If you plan on doing a lot of exploring in the Colony, his maps are really helpful, so consider buying one!
So, Graham sells these Parchment sheets alongside his maps. They’re 15 Ore Nuggets each, but honestly, I only needed one for Torrez’s quest, so buying more felt like a waste. Ore Nuggets are kinda hard to get at the beginning, and I’d rather save mine for leveling up, getting better gear, and stuff that really matters right now.
After you collect the Blank Parchment and two Wolf Claws, bring them back to Torrez. He’ll give you a choice of two runes as a reward.
The Healing Rune lives up to its name by restoring a large amount of health. This is especially helpful for characters who fight up close and often take damage. Being able to heal repeatedly reduces the need for potions and other healing items, making longer journeys much safer.
The Firebolt Rune lets you attack enemies from a distance with powerful magic. While healing is helpful, there are already plenty of ways to regain health – like eating, using potions, or resting. I found the Firebolt Rune more valuable because the extra damage it provides is a big help when you’re starting out and your character is still weak and facing challenging enemies.
