While the story shares similarities with Cinderella, this season also captures the original charm and atmosphere that made Bridgerton so popular.

What’s Kept Season 4 From the Top?

There are a couple of ideas about why viewership dropped. One is that the third season wasn’t very well-received, leaving viewers disappointed and unwilling to continue watching. It shifted the focus away from the central love story and introduced too many complicated side plots. The romance between Penelope and Colin didn’t quite measure up to the popular pairings from previous seasons, like Daphne and Simon, Anthony and Kate, or even Queen Charlotte and King George. Another theory is that Netflix’s decision to split the season into two parts, releasing them a month apart, frustrated fans—and they’ve made that frustration very clear.

While the fourth season didn’t quite break into the top 10 most-watched shows, it was still incredibly popular and received excellent reviews, earning an 82% approval rating from critics. As critic Nicholas Brooks put it, Season 4 Part 2 might not be the show’s best, but it’s a genuinely touching and wonderfully satisfying romantic story.
