Prime’s Underrated Fantasy Gem Still Needs 1 Big Change (& I’m Shocked It Hasn’t Happened Yet)

The fantastic, but often overlooked, fantasy series The Legend of Vox Machina is back for a fourth season, and it’s taking some big risks with its story. Like the spin-off show The Mighty Nein, the season begins with the characters split up, and a key member of the group is still missing after the first three episodes. But the changes don’t stop there – the team is also confronting a completely new kind of enemy, a departure from the dragons they faced in the Chroma Conclave.

Even with all the major changes in Season 4 of The Legend of Vox Machina, one thing remains constant. Considering the new villain and the character Taryon Darrington, this is a bit unexpected. The show still needs to address this issue, though it might save it for its last season.

The Legend of Vox Machina Season 4 Still Needs to Change Its Opening Theme

While The Legend of Vox Machina could be continuing with a new story arc, the show’s opening theme hasn’t changed. Both the music and visuals from previous seasons are still used. Changing the music isn’t unusual – it happened before when the show moved from its first two seasons to Season 3. However, it’s a bit strange to keep the same visuals, as they mostly show team interactions and characters who aren’t as important in the latest episodes.

The show is clearly setting up the arrival of the Whispered One and introducing a new character, Taryon Darrington, to the team. The story is getting noticeably darker, focusing more on death magic and showing tension within Vox Machina. The first three episodes of Season 4 have a much darker tone and visuals, but the opening credits don’t reflect this change – they still focus on old enemies and past events. We don’t see Taryon Darrington in the credits, and Scanlan still seems to be a central figure. While there are hints of the coming darkness, they feel subtle compared to how important the Whispered One and his followers have become.

It’s Surprising The Prime Video Series Doesn’t Start Season 4 With This Change

It’s surprising that Season 4 of The Legend of Vox Machina didn’t start with a new opening sequence, even though the original was used for two seasons. The story shifted so dramatically from Seasons 3 to 4 that some kind of visual update felt necessary, even if the creators wanted to retain shots of the main characters and references to the Matron. The storylines involving Taryon Darrington and the Whispered One offered great opportunities for new visuals – think of the magical gems used by Vox Machina’s newest member or the undead creatures threatening Exandria. Considering the Whispered One is likely to be the main villain for the rest of the series, a new opening sequence for Seasons 4 and 5 would have been a good fit.

It’s uncertain whether the latest season of The Legend of Vox Machina will explore new themes as the story unfolds with its enigmatic villain. However, given the show’s weekly release format, a major shift seems improbable at this point. Delaying significant changes until the middle of Season 4 doesn’t make much sense, so fans are likely looking to Season 5 for a fresh start or a revised opening approach.

The Legend of Vox Machina Season 5 Needs One Last Title Sequence Change to Send Off the Series

As a huge fan of The Legend of Vox Machina, I really think they need to update the opening credits for Season 5. The current sequence just doesn’t quite fit with where the story is going now. Plus, since Season 5 is going to be the last one, a brand new theme song and opening would be an amazing way to give this fantastic, but often overlooked, show the send-off it deserves. The beginning of Season 4 felt a little disconnected, so let’s hope they nail the opening for the finale and end things on a truly high note.
