The production of “Spider-Man: Fresh Start” is now in a critical phase as filming commences in Glasgow, suggesting a significant new adversary may emerge. Crews have set up armored vehicles adorned with a red devil emblem on set, fueling speculation about the movie’s primary antagonist. With Tom Holland reprising his role and additional characters set to debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, early hints are creating quite a stir among fans.
Mister Negative possibly confirmed in Spider-Man: Brand New Day set video
On set during filming in Glasgow, teams strategically placed several vehicles that resembled military models adorned with a red devil emblem. This symbol is strikingly similar to the insignia used by the fictional criminal organization known as the Inner Demons, which is controlled by the villain Mister Negative from Marvel Comics and Insomniac’s Spider-Man video games.
On Twitter, users @Adama4692 and @Arach_07 posted pictures and videos from the film set. These clips suggest that teams are preparing armored vehicles for a scene in the upcoming movie. Although Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures haven’t verified Mister Negative’s presence, fans have speculated about his potential role due to similarities between the logos and those of the Inner Demons. As of August 2025, no actor has been cast as Mister Negative.
Mister Negative, originally Martin Li, debuted in 2007 comics. Typically, writers portray him as a crime lord from Chinatown who harnesses the power of Darkforce, has mind-controlling abilities, and can manipulate energy. In the Spider-Man PS4 video game, he becomes the main adversary and unleashes the Devil’s Breath biological weapon over New York City. His minions, known as his Inner Demons, wear masks, wield weapons imbued with dark energy, and travel in armored vehicles bearing their symbol.
In “Spider-Man: Fresh Start,” which follows after “Spider-Man: Beyond Yesterday,” Peter Parker finds himself in a world where people are unaware of his Spider-Man identity. The film is directed by Destin Daniel Cretton and features an ensemble cast that includes Tom Holland, Zendaya, Jacob Batalon, Sadie Sink, Jon Bernthal playing the Punisher, and Mark Ruffalo portraying the Hulk.
The upcoming movie by Sony and Marvel is set for a theater release on July 31, 2026. Production started back in August 2025, with rumors suggesting that it’s a prequel to Avengers: Doomsday.
