Season 4 of Invincible has finished airing, and it’s another solid installment of the popular animated superhero show on Prime Video – although some episodes are stronger than others. Critics have given the new season a perfect 100% score on Rotten Tomatoes, and overall it lives up to the hype. While one part of the season isn’t as strong, the exciting action and compelling drama in later episodes more than compensate for it.
The most captivating episodes of Invincible Season 4 skillfully combine exciting action with emotional character interactions. These moments are especially powerful when they finally allow long-awaited conflicts to come to a head, delivering satisfying conclusions to storylines that have been building for years. This payoff makes these episodes particularly strong. Below, we rank all eight episodes of the season. Warning: Spoilers ahead for Invincible Season 4, Episodes 1-8.
8) “Hurm” (Episode 4)

Most fans agree that the fourth episode of Invincible Season 4, titled “Hurm,” is the weakest of the season. In fact, it received the lowest ratings of any episode of the show on IMDb. While it has some good moments – like some funny scenes and Mark developing as a character – it doesn’t quite hit the mark. This episode feels more disconnected from the main storyline than the others, which is particularly disappointing given that it comes right before the major Viltrumite conflict begins. The characters Mark encounters in hell aren’t particularly interesting, though hopefully, Season 5 will find a way to make their introduction more meaningful.
7) “Making the World a Better Place” (Episode 1)

The first episode of Invincible Season 4 effectively reintroduces the world and characters, though it doesn’t quite live up to the quality of later episodes. Following the intense battle against Conquest in Season 3, the show wisely takes a moment to reset and show how everyone is coping – especially Mark, who’s becoming noticeably more aggressive. This shift in Mark’s character is the most compelling part of the premiere. While the episode features some action with smaller villains in “Making the World a Better Place,” they aren’t particularly memorable. Conquest’s escape at the end is a strong moment, but the episodes that directly address the Viltrumite conflict are far more impactful – as is one episode that feels a lot like the premiere.
6) “I Gotta Get Some Air” (Episode 3)

Similar to the first episode of Invincible Season 4, Episode 3 focuses on supporting characters and villains while showing Mark becoming more unstable. However, I’d rank it slightly higher than the premiere because the action sequences are more enjoyable, and it provides a more compelling look at the characters of Eve and Oliver. The episode ends with a few interesting storylines – like Monster Girl and Robot being trapped in the Flaxan dimension – that aren’t resolved immediately, but could be explored later. While “I Gotta Get Some Air” shows potential, it doesn’t feel as complete or satisfying as the episodes that focus on the main plot of Season 4.
5) “Don’t Leave Me Hanging Here” (Episode 8)

The fourth season of Invincible ends on a more subdued note with “Don’t Leave Me Hanging Here,” which feels fitting after the intense events of the previous episode. The conversation between Mark and Grand Regent Thragg, and Allen’s discoveries in the final scene, are highlights. The episode excels at portraying Mark’s struggles with PTSD and the emotional fallout of Eve’s abortion, while also continuing Nolan’s path toward redemption without offering easy forgiveness. Overall, it sets up an exciting fifth season, even if it doesn’t quite reach the same thrilling heights as the episodes before it.
4) “You Look Horrible” (Episode 6)

The sixth episode of Invincible Season 4 focuses on the fallout from the first major battle with the Viltrumites, leaving Mark severely injured and separating him, Nolan, and Oliver from their allies. As Mark recovers, Nolan and Oliver share some touching moments that strengthen their bond – a key emotional element of the season. The growing friendship between Allen and Tech Jacket is another bright spot in this episode. While the action sequence in “You Look Horrible” isn’t the most intense Invincible has offered, it effectively builds anticipation for the thrilling seventh episode.
3) “I’ll Give You the Grand Tour” (Episode 2)

Early episodes of Invincible Season 4 mostly move away from the Viltrum Empire storyline, but Episode 2, “I’ll Give You the Grand Tour,” dives right back in. This episode sets up future events and begins to explore Nolan’s attempts at making amends. It reveals a devastating history of a plague that decimated the Viltrumites and sends Nolan and Allen on a mission to find weapons that can fight it. While Episode 6 is emotionally uplifting, Episode 2 is profoundly tragic, even making you sympathize with the show’s villains. Although it lacks a major action scene, this episode is particularly memorable, offering both action and genuinely funny moments as Nolan and Allen connect. It doesn’t quite reach the top tier of Invincible episodes, but it comes very close.
2) “Give Us a Moment” (Episode 5)

The fourth season of Invincible kicks off its major conflict in the episode “Give Us a Moment,” where the Coalition faces off against the Viltrumites. While this battle doesn’t have as many deaths as the later episode 6, the danger feels more intense. The heroes are clearly struggling, and Conquest is especially brutal in the fight. Both Mark and Oliver find themselves in serious trouble, and Mark’s final scene with Conquest is particularly graphic. The episode also features strong emotional moments, like a tense reunion between Debbie and Nolan, and interactions between Nolan and his sons, providing a good balance of action and heart. It’s a well-rounded episode, though it doesn’t quite reach the peak of Season 4’s best installment, “Don’t Do Anything Rash.”
1) “Don’t Do Anything Rash” (Episode 7)

While previous episodes showed battles against the Viltrumites, Season 4, Episode 7 of Invincible delivers the epic confrontation the entire season has been leading up to. Mark and his team take the fight to the Viltrumites’ home world, but despite their efforts, they can’t fully defeat Thragg and his forces. They do manage to destroy the planet Viltrum, creating a stunning and impactful moment, but it only fuels Thragg’s rage. The episode, titled “Don’t Do Anything Rash,” truly showcases Thragg’s immense power as he kills Thaedus, almost kills Nolan, and surprisingly spares Mark when things look their worst. It’s a consistently tense and captivating episode that leaves viewers on the edge of their seats, eager to find out what happens next. It also introduces a new, urgent problem: the surviving Viltrumites seeking to rebuild their population on Earth. “Don’t Do Anything Rash” achieves a lot while remaining thoroughly entertaining, making it the standout episode of the season.
