Apple TV+ has struck gold once more with a side-splittingly funny horror series that’s quickly become a global streaming sensation.
The new season of the show launched on April 29th with its first two episodes and has quickly become one of the most-watched programs on Apple TV+, currently ranking at number four. It’s also receiving rave reviews, boasting a perfect 100% score on Rotten Tomatoes based on 36 reviews. Critics and viewers agree: this horror-comedy delivers both thrills and laughs, and features a fantastic cast.
The series centers on Tom Loftis, portrayed by Matthew Rhys, a practical single father and the mayor of a small New England island. He finds himself at odds with the townspeople, who believe their home is cursed. Instead of addressing their fears, Mayor Loftis hopes to capitalize on the town’s spooky stories and transform Widow’s Bay into a popular tourist destination.
Apple TV+’s New Horror-Comedy Is Already One Of Its Best
AppleTV+’s new series, Widow’s Bay, is earning rave reviews and is currently a Certified Fresh show on Rotten Tomatoes (though scores can change). Many are already calling it one of the best new shows of 2026. Created by Katie Dippold, who brought us Parks and Recreation, the series features a talented cast including Rhys, Kate O’Flynn (from My Lady Jane), Stephen Root (Barry), and Kevin Carroll (Snowfall). Dippold not only created the show but also wrote and executive produced it. Hiro Murai, known for his work on Atlanta and Mr. & Mrs. Smith, directed and also served as an executive producer.
Critics are raving about the new Apple TV+ horror series. Angel Shaw of ScreenRant compared it to a collection of spooky New England ghost stories in the style of Stephen King, noting that it includes all the classic horror elements. Emily Bernard from Collider called it “the most daring, weirdest show on Apple TV.” Viewers seem to agree, and the show is currently a top 5 hit on the platform, filling the void left by other popular Apple TV series like Severance after its season finale in March 2025.
Whether the show will be renewed for another season is still uncertain. However, creator Meredith Dippold has mentioned that although she initially wrote the series as a self-contained story, she does have some ideas for potential future storylines if it gets picked up for a second season.
Widow’s Bay Is Weekly Appointment Viewing
I’m really enjoying how Widow’s Bay releases episodes weekly on Apple TV+. It gives us something new to discuss every week – I’ve seen tons of theories online and heard people at work talking about it too! It’s different from shows where you can just watch everything at once. This way, it builds suspense and keeps me coming back for more. Plus, all the buzz makes me want to keep watching and I think it’s bringing in new viewers who are curious about what everyone’s talking about.
There’s a lot of excitement surrounding Widow’s Bay, especially since it’s being described as a blend of Apple TV+’s Severance and Parks and Recreation. This combination is attracting fans of similar shows like Netflix’s Midnight Mass and Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen, as well as MGM+’s From. Whether the show can maintain this level of popularity remains to be seen, as new episodes will be released weekly until June 17, 2026.
