While Ben Affleck’s new film, The Rip, is excellent, it’s a good opportunity to revisit his earlier, often overlooked Netflix thriller, Triple Frontier. The Rip, directed by Joe Carnahan (known for Narc), is a gripping and realistic action movie centered around police officers who discover a large sum of money hidden in a warehouse.
The group quickly starts to argue as they grapple with what to do about the $20 million they discovered in an attic. By the end of the story, loyalties shift constantly, there’s been a lot of violence, and many lives are lost, all because of this massive, untraceable sum of money.
The Rip Is A Reminder To Check Out Triple Frontier

In addition to a great performance by Teyana Taylor, who recently gained recognition in One Battle After Another, The Rip brings Matt Damon and Ben Affleck back together on screen. The two actors previously co-starred in Air and The Last Duel, and this time they lead a talented cast that also features Kyle Chandler, Sasha Calle, and Steven Yeun.
Although The Rip is excellent, fans of the new Netflix action thriller should also check out Ben Affleck’s previous heist film. Triple Frontier, released in 2019, boasts a similarly impressive cast – including Charlie Hunnam, Garrett Hedlund, Oscar Isaac, and Pedro Pascal – and stars Affleck. Like The Rip, it’s a streamlined, quick-moving, and suspenseful thriller.
The action thriller Triple Frontier follows a group of former Delta Force operatives who team up for a dangerous mission: to rob a powerful drug lord in Peru. Led by Isaac’s character, Santiago “Pope” Garcia, the team reunites, but their ambitious plan quickly spirals into a violent and unpredictable situation.
The Rip vs. Triple Frontier: Which Is Better?
JC Chandor, the director of Margin Call, brings us Triple Frontier, a gripping and dark action thriller with some truly surprising scenes. While both Triple Frontier and The Rip are enjoyable and offer a fresh take on the genre, The Rip has a more compelling storyline. Still, if you’re looking for a fast-paced adventure filled with betrayals, lies, and shootouts, either film will deliver.
The intensity of The Rip stems from its single setting and the complicated relationship between its flawed main characters. Triple Frontier, on the other hand, focuses on the protagonists’ challenging attempt to execute a hugely ambitious heist in a foreign land with limited support. Despite Triple Frontier‘s polished presentation, The Rip ultimately presents a more nuanced and morally challenging thriller.
