Considering Bloober Team is working on major projects like Project M, the Silent Hill Remake, and Layers of Fear 3, the company has appointed a new studio head. Thaine Lyman, formerly of Activision and Wargaming, will now lead production and oversee all development teams, as reported by GamesIndustry.
Michał Gembicki, formerly of CD Projekt, now leads publishing efforts, overseeing strategy and worldwide distribution. Katya Baukov is the new director of business development, responsible for growth, expanding the company’s reach, and building partnerships. She previously worked at both CD Projekt and Techland.
Bloober Team is working on seven games right now. Five of these are being made in partnership under their “Black Mirror Games” brand. CEO Piotr Babieno will also oversee development of two other games made entirely in-house. He explained this approach is about reducing risk – having at least two projects underway is crucial in the current gaming landscape, as depending on just one is too precarious.
Honestly, as a fan, I’m really glad they’re not trying to pump out a ton of content. I’d much rather have fewer projects that are really well-made and thoughtfully done. It seems like they’ve found a sweet spot with two main productions – enough to keep things exciting, but not so much that the quality would slip. They clearly care about doing things right, and I appreciate that!
Layers of Fear 3 is one of the games Bloober Team is working on, but the studio prioritizes quality over quantity. According to CEO Piotr Babieno, players want memorable, unique experiences, not just a constant stream of new releases. He also stressed the importance of building a stable team, avoiding rapid, unsustainable growth that could lead to future layoffs.
We’re growing carefully and deliberately, not just trying to get big as quickly as possible. We prioritize building a sustainable business with strong finances and lasting stability. This stability is important because many of our team members have been with us for a long time. Building relationships over the long term fosters trust, shared creativity, and a more solid base than if we had focused on rapid growth.
I’m committed to building a company that grows at a sustainable pace, avoiding the need for layoffs to fix issues. Our goal is to navigate challenges and emerge even stronger as a team.
Currently, none of these projects have firm release dates. We haven’t seen much of Project M, which is planned only for the Nintendo Switch 2. Silent Hill Remake and Layers of Fear 3 are still without confirmed release windows, and Project H, from the creators of Cronos: The New Dawn, is still in early development.
