Cancelled Shonen Jump Series Just Dropped New Trailer for Anime Revival After 8 Years

A popular anime series from Shonen Jump is getting a brand new season after being off the air for eight years. A recently released trailer has given fans their first detailed look at the upcoming reboot. Over the past few years, many classic Shonen Jump series have returned with new projects like sequels and reboots. This trend isn’t just bringing back long-running favorites – it’s also giving cancelled shows a second chance.

Tsuyoshi Takaki’s Black Torch is getting an anime adaptation despite having a short run – only 19 chapters – when it was originally published on Shueisha’s Shonen Jump+ in 2018. Fans can finally see the story come to life with the anime’s debut this July as part of a busy summer season for new anime releases. A new trailer offering a preview of the anime is available below.

Black Torch Anime Releases Trailer Ahead of July 2026 Release

I’m excited to share that Black Torch is officially scheduled to premiere on July 4th as part of the Summer 2026 anime season! If you’re in North America, Central America, South America, Europe, Africa, Oceania, the Middle East, or the CIS, you’ll be able to watch it exclusively on Crunchyroll. Viz Media is handling the license, and they’re releasing both a Japanese and English dub, which is great news for fans who prefer either version – especially considering this was a previously cancelled Shonen Jump series.

Fans can get a sneak peek at the first episode of the new anime series, Black Torch, at Anime Expo 2026 this July. The series will be directed by Kei Umabiki, with animation by 100studio. Gigaemon Ichikawa is writing the story and screenplay, Gou Suzuki is designing the characters, and Yutaka Yamada is composing the music. The original creator, Tsuyoshi Takaki, was also heavily involved in overseeing the production.

What to Know for Black Torch’s Anime Revival

When Black Torch was first announced, creator Takaki shared that he’d been overseeing the production’s visuals and storyboards. He was pleased with how the project evolved, saying it beautifully enhanced the original story while remaining true to it. He also expressed surprise and excitement, teasing that the new version would be a fully realized experience with voice acting, sound effects, animation, and plenty of action, cats, and… well, thighs! They hope fans will love it.

If you missed Black Torch when it first came out, Viz Media will be re-releasing the five manga volumes this fall for fans in the US. This is a great opportunity to read the original story and see how it compares to the upcoming anime, which seems to be an expanded version.
