Final Fantasy 7 Revelation Confirms Massive Change From Rebirth and First Game

Square Enix has officially announced Final Fantasy 7 Revelation – also known as Final Fantasy Remake Part 3 – and revealed a significant difference from the previous two games, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth and the original Final Fantasy 7 Remake. The game was unveiled yesterday at Summer Games Fest, with a planned release in 2027. Notably, it will be available on multiple platforms, including PlayStation 5, PC, Xbox Series X, and Nintendo Switch 2. This multi-platform approach marks a change from the first two installments.

Fans of Final Fantasy might notice a slight change in Sephiroth’s voice in Final Fantasy 7 Revelation when it releases next year. That’s because a new actor, Travis Willingham, will be voicing the character. Square Enix hasn’t explained why Tyler Hoechlin isn’t returning to the role, but Willingham is a highly experienced voice actor who should do a great job. He’s known for many popular roles in video games, including Knuckles in Sonic the Hedgehog, Guile in Street Fighter, Thor in Marvel’s Avengers, Kingpin in Marvel’s Spider-Man, and Cell in Dragon Ball.

Willingham as Sephiroth

It’s likely the new voice actor for the main villain will do a good job, but it’s uncertain if they’ll capture the same feel as the original performance. Square Enix probably won’t allow much creative freedom, and perfectly matching the previous actor’s work will be difficult. This is particularly challenging because the villain appears frequently in this game, and timing isn’t ideal during the remake process.

As of right now, the original voice actor hasn’t spoken about the change, and Square Enix hasn’t explained it either. We’ll update this article if we hear from either of them.
